On the face of it, you spitting in her face was "wrong", but no one was there but you and therefore, no one should pontificate how you should have reacted. So, take everyone's disgust with a grain of salt.
A guy would probably not say those things to you because he would know that there would be consequenses (i.e. a punch in the face and a kick in the balls)...women (not all, just the low-class ones) don't have this fear because they know/think they're untouchable...that is why they run off the mouth with impunity.
...but there is a line. All I can say is that crossing that line is a tough call.
Some advice: Stay cool; protect your interests and your reputation (i.e. don't put yourself in a postion where you can be disiplined by school or even police authorities - spitting is assault, btw)...and finally - "revenge is a dish that served best cold."
Anyway, I'm with you in heart Sero (I've gotten into scraps over mother related incidents in HS too).
Bottom line: If the situation is over, let it go. However, if she keeps it, up make her pay...but be creative. You should not have to take xxxx from anyone, but DON'T GET YOURSELF IN TROUBLE OVER THIS TART.
