Honestly, for the sake of simplicity. Whether it comes to geography, culture, etc. I just consider Armenia to be in another league of sorts and that's all I say.

I never say "oh we're close to this" or "in that" or "sort of like them". I just say Armenian and Armenia baby.

... for those pics of Europe and Asia, I love how everything west of the Urals and North of the Caucasus is European, except for that chunk of Kazakhstan, which by those definitions is in Europe, and if it were part of Russia would be drawn in that way.

You're right, that chunk from Kazakhstan is in Europe, and I've seen many maps show it that way.



If we look at this map, there's no Asia or Europe, there's Eurasia. We're Eurasians. But then again, that would mean India, Arabia and Nicaragua (with the rest of Central Americans) are different continents, and that part of Russia is North American... XD

I voted Asia but I do not care. From what i've gathered, people who religiously push the idea that Armenia is in Europe generally think that associating ourselves with Asia is a bad thing. Looking at a map, it is clear to me that geographically, at least, we are in Asia. Trying to push that we are in Europe will not really make a difference if you have in mind that this will help Armenia join the EU or something (is this even a good thing?) We're already in a bunch of European organisations, we even play in the UEFA.

I would rather we educate people about our location more precisely when someone clueless asks where Armenia is than to throw out vague terms like "we're in southeastern Europe/western Asia". I would rather we say that we are in the Caucasus and then if they do not know where that is, you explain its location and help them locate it by giving examples of Armenia's better-known neighbours (Turkey, Iran and Russia preferably).

I always have to do that, not only when I'm asked about the location of Armenia, but the location of a lot of places in the world.

As a teacher, I can tell you it is surprising what quantity of people around the world is clueless about basic geography, sometimes they don't even know how to locate their own country in a world map.

I always say "south of Russia, between the Caspian and Black seas." then if they need further guiding, I say "east of Turkey."

"Just right above Iran" is always a last resort.
