I went to Armenia and visited some Orphanages there and I had a good time it was troubling it was sad. Im wondering if you had any experiences in a Soviet or former Soviet Orphanage? What is the situation like now has it changed or not?

    Regards

It was very Soviet style like it was run down, the hallways were dark and damp there was no proper modern health technology. It lacked the use of proper medical equipment, certain things were left out.

A lot of the kids were rocking in their chairs some of them had been self mutilating themselves in a way that certain features would show e.g. gangrene.

It was horrible, it had really bad unhygienic smell. The kids weren't allowed to get out of the cot cause the bars were too high. Often I found the nurses quite rough and talked to the kids in a bossy way.

From what I read that Armenia has over 100 Soviet style Orphanages.

I was deeply disturbed I wanted to help these poor helpless children I wanted to take one home

So they are just like your notorious post-Communist era Romanian orphanages? Though they were a result of your country having a long-term policy of encouraging as many children as possible to be born and contraception being impossible to get.

Anyone know what the Armenian Church's stance on contraception is? And abortion?

It's probably identical to the Catholic Church's stance.

That's sad. Especially since a large percentage of the Armenian population will have been descended from orphans. The biggest orphanage in the world was in Gyumri in the 1920s - I think it was 30,000 children - all survivors of the Genocide.
