I don't get the joke (sorry). But does this mean that there's some level of consensus that it should be Gha instead of K?

Any commentary on the distortion issue, since there are many Kazarian's in the US? I'm curious as to whether you folks are thinking that they're all distorted.

The funny part was that the name basicly means carrots. There are lots of armenian last names that mean real words thus are not just names or atleast the first part of it anyways. I met some nice people a while ago and the last name was droshakakirian, it means flag carrier literaly.O Of course there are the infamous pligian and putsigians names to(i am not kiding). The list goes on and gets pretty funny at times. We could probably start a new thread on funny armenian sirnames.

Well Kazarian by itself has no meaning it seems (as far as I know) so if you want to be accurate with your last name, go with Ghazarian (Ղազարեան). Kazarian would certainly help odars in pronouncing your last name and not get dumbfounded when they see an 'H' after a 'G' and go

If you're wondering, Ghazar is a name which is the Armenian equivalent of Lazarus.

"Son of" part is correct. Never heard of the name Kazar, much less within an Armenian family. Ghazar is a relatively common name though, especially in old times.
