Re: Would you be okay with legalized abortion in Armenia?

while i don't support abortion, i understand how it can be necessary, for instance, there should be the option if it comes down between the mother and the child's life (always save the mother), or if the mother was a victim of rape/incest, you also run the risk of women trying to do back alley abortions which many times can run the risk of going wrong and resulting in infertility or sometimes even death.

I also understand why there shouldn't be abortion, especially since there aren't that many Armenians anyways, but idk even most ultra conservative baptist republicans in the USA say there are exceptions to where it should be allowed, so maybe there should be some exceptions in Armenia as well

I think the majority of people will agree abortion is acceptable under certain circumstances up to a certain period during pregnancy. The grey area has always been what those circumstances should be and up until which point is it no longer a blob but a viable human life. What the general intelligent society doesn't want to promote is the idea that it's ok to be irresponsible since abortion is always an acceptable solution.

Politically abortions are one of those non-issues and just a diversion the from real issues that affect the majority.

Azar, it's good to ask questions; however, it may be necessary for you to also participate in other discussions that exist so we can see a more diverse view of you and your beliefs. Just a suggestion so we can get to know you better

Does anyone else find it ironic that the person who legalized abortion in America is now an anti-abortionist?

... and insulting other people (us), indirectly.

If you had read my post on the first page, maybe you wouldn't be inclined to post the above. Abortion is legal in Armenia.

Now i'm no expert on abortion statistics or what not but...

In 2009, 23.2% of pregnancies in Armenia ended in abortion, a slight rise from the all-time low recorded in 2004 (22.1%).[3]

What's up with this figure? Isn't this a little too high? The article makes it seem like it's low...?

Not sure. It's wikipedia, anyone can edit it, and maybe the numbers are bogus.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

Those figures are posted based on the reference articles posted at the bottom of the page. They are most definitely wrong. 23% is outrageously large, even larger than in the US. Some of the statistics in the linked article mentioned up to 140 abortions per 1000 women which is over 7 times that in the US.
I just linked the article just to show that abortion is indeed legal. A better link would be the following that outlines what type of abortion is legal when.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_law just go to the abortion section.

Re: Would you be okay with legalized abortion in Armenia?

Well idk if those numbers are accurate fed, but I would imagine they are much lower than rates in other countries, such as india, where no matter how many abortions they have they still can't seem to keep the population from increasing.

The rate is on par with that of America, i think it's 22% of all pregnancies excluding miscarriage here, end in abortion.

I think abortion should stay legal, but perhaps couples having sex should at least think of contraceptives, or even the morning after pill, so it won't ever have to come down to an abortion
