Almost all the names in the Armenian translation of Bible are identical or slight mispronunciations of the original Hebrew and Greek, however Asvadz doesn't seem to come from any of the names of God in Hebrew (there's over 40) or Greek or Latin. It also doesn't seem to come from any of the Armenian pagan god names.

And the Armenian word for angel is unique in that it seems to come from the Armenian word for Monster "Hresh" and literally means something like "of/from Monsters" which I guess is supposed to be in a reference to supernatural beings, but still this is the same word that's used to describe the bad kind of monsters too, so I have to wonder about the thought process on that one.

I know I'm gonna catch some flak for this, but here goes... and no references supplied.
We (Armenians) as well as J-ews are decendents of Noah.
In the day of Noah, both Shem & Japheth spoke the same language.
In the early days of populating "Anatolia" the language split into distinct separate languages.
Armin was an angel. Specifically a watcher. Before Armin joined us & we became an "indo European" branch, Hurrian was our base language. There are or were many variations of the original Hurrian (basic pre indo European) language. We were all related by ancestry of Torgum/Japheth/Noah.
Our branch of indo European is isolated and different than all the others.
The fallen angels for the most part were terrors to the sons of man.
Armin, although a fallen angel that did sin in the eyes of God was in essence friendly and helpful to us.
That is not to say he didn't mess up. But he was well liked buy us and in fact beloved.
He and his band took on our language as much as we adopted theirs.
I know way we call angels monsters. Most were in fact brutal monsters.
We call ourselves by two names -- Hyre & Armenian.
Hayr, is the name of the son of man. Believe it or not, we're call ourselves Armenian, we are actually calling ourselves angels.
I would have to see the context of when the name for God is used but guess its pre indoeuropean that may be remmnent of ancestral speach like Noah spoke.

Dude maybe am wrong but I think Astvats was a name of a old pagan god.

Ask Arpa from that other Armenian forum that dare not speak its name here.

Astvats is pre-Christian Armenian in origin, as Serjik sugests - but I think its meaning is more like the quality or concept of being a god rather than being a name for a specific god.
