UNKNOWABLES
*******************************
In his celebrated CRITIQUE OF PURE REASON,
Kant tells us there are three unknowables in life:
the immortality of the soul,
the existence of God, and
the universe in its entirety.
To this short list I will add another:
What life would be like in a democratic Armenia.
*
Our millennial history has been shaped
by individuals who collaborated with the enemy.
Democracy and the will of the people
have been distant and unattainable goals.
To cover up this reality we have invented lies
like “Turks would never dare to massacre us
when the eyes of the world are on them,”
and “Russians are our big brothers.
*
There are no brothers in politics
and the aim of all colonizers is
to deceive and exploit the natives.
Everyone knows this except
our speechifiers and sermonizers.
*
Will we ever know what life would be like
in a democratic Armenia?
My guess is: Not in my own lifetimes.
