Charles Peguy’s GOD SPEAKS

Speaking of God:
What has been His role in our genocide?
My guess is Turks overestimated our power
to the same degree that we underestimated theirs.
This may suggest the Genocide was
a direct result of a gigantic misunderstanding.
*
God speaks to me too once in a while
but I don’t pay much attention to what He says
because I don’t believe in His existence.
*
By the time we realized we lived in a godless world,
the indiscriminate slaughter had begun.
*
God should have warned us?
But He did – with several massacres
that preceded the Genocide.
*
Two things recognize no limits:
God’s indifference and man’s stupidity.
