  • Genealogical advice: translation of Armenian name/word: "Setrak"

    Hello,

I am trying to track the origin of my great grand father Grigoriy
Setrakov. He gets his last name, Setrakov, after the Cossack village
Setrakov, on the Don River, Russia where he was born 1860. Later after The
II War, the name of the village was changed to "Setraki".

Because there is no Russian word or word root "Setrakov", this word must
have been loaned from other language/population, which was present in this
area once in the time (300-400 years ago?). My hypothesis is that it might
    be Armenian.

After researches about etymology of "Setrakov" in Russian, the conclusion
seems to be that "Setrakov" originates from the Armenian "Setrak".

I am grateful for an Armenian translation of "setrak" or other opinions in
this matter, which would confirm or not my hypothesis.

    Thank you!

Setrak is an Armenian name. I dont know if you had arrived at that conclusion yet. As for further readings on the name i will have to get back to you. Maybe Vrouyr was able to help you.

            Sorry all!

It's been a while since I've checked the forum.

I see that my old friend Tigran is back, and my new friend Jinx claimed at some point that he would **** if he were a girl...interesting...

As for Setrak, I don't know any more about it than Tigran..

            Sorry! But good luck!

All I can say is, you might be a cousin of Berge Setrakian, president of A.G.B.U.
