i think if u dont or cant speak the armenian language or in fact practice the armenian culture u have no right to say u are armenian
You say "or", what if someone meets one of those qualifications but not the other? Are they just half Armenians then? What if there are extenuating circumstances for why they can't speak Armenian?
I think you're wrong.
and a majority of East Coast Armenians prove that. (Armenians from Boston, Philadelphia, NY, etc...)
they're 3rd or 4th or even 5th generation American Armenians...they come from pure Armenian families, they're very Armenian spirited. they work hard for the Armenian cause... in different organizations... without knowing a word of Armenian.(except for "parev" with an accent )
I've met and made friends with a lot of em.
Thank you gaucho, that's exactly what I was getting at- me being a Philadelphia Armenian. I despise the way some Armenians like IDontCare
like to put themselves above me because they know more Armenian and therefor are "real Armenians". I will not have anyone tell me who feel more or less Armenian than me. It's possible to grow up speaking it but hate your nationality, its totally unfair to those who don't know it to classify all that don't know it is a non-real Armenian. Besides, I could look down on all of you for barely being Americans. I've had many more generations living here than most of the "real Armenians".
I can't remember the name of the British language scholar who studied Armenian but he said (Armenian is the language one speaks when they talk with God)--Artashes
