It has much more to do with Armenian than "rabiz" and other vile turko-semitic dialects many Armenians speak in the Diaspora.

While I can understand that indeed pure Armenian is the most beautiful language on earth (and I'm not biased either) and we must try to reach this ideal, we must remember that people in Armenia had to deal with the enormous Russification by the Kremlin. Russian was shoved down our throat. It's the same in many other countries that had to contend with another foreign language as the second official language in the country, e.g. Algeria. They're all Arabs, but their Arabic is completely mixed with French vocabulary. As far as I'm concerned though, I would much rather prefer speaking Russo-Armenian, than the Armenian that contains many turkish words: shalvar, sapon, zibil, zeitun, etc... On the side note, Armenians in diaspora speak better Armenian than the Haiastancis (IMO).

With all do respect, you would never speak with a Persian Armenian in Armenian and have them reply to you in Farsi... and most of them lived in Iran for generations. Yet, they use some of the words you mentioned you don't like, such as shalvar, sapon, zeitun, etc. (but not zibil). So which one is better? To have people embrace their language but use a couple of slang words or ignore their language to the point where they reply to you in a complete different language - or pretend they don't even understand Armenian?

The Armenians of Diaspora, even if some lived for centuries away from Armenia,like the Persian Armenians, kept their language even though they were in a foreign country.
The Armenians of Armenia adopted Russian elements in their country , while they were living in Armenia.
Although there is no prefrence about which foreign words are better to be used in our language.The best is to use only Armenian words for everything.

The only people I ever remember not knowing Armenian or having a poor Armenian were Armenians who had a Russian parent or were brought up outside Armenia. The rest of us all spoke it fluently (so the above bit is somewhat exaggerated). Us Haiastancis only had problem with vocabulary, not knowing the true Armenian words and instead opting for the foreign ones. I myself must admit that all my adolecsence I never knew the real Armenian word for pants (vartik) and instead said shalvar. It's not that it was hard to learn the Armenian word. It's just that our parents and everyone around us used the foreign word (this is not an excuse, btw).

Can I ask who really speaks armenian???.........I mean no "zargon", but "clean" armenian. I just, when i was in armenia at 2000, I was shoping there. I asked saleswomen in armenian and she respond me in russian. I think that bad.........why armenian people must speak with another armenians in russian. If I born there (IF I LIVES THERE!!!) so i must speak armenian, or not???

Well, we can only tell how well you speak Armenian when you speak Armenian
