  • How To Write & Read Armenian Text With A Computer

Some - probably many - would like to be able to write and read Armenian text with their computer. The purpose of this thread is to provide resources that will hopefully facilitate the task of installing the proper fonts, keyboard drivers and/or applications.
Of course, the procedures depend on a particular OS. I will start with Windows XP, because it is probably?? the most widely used - and peobably easiest. I will next cover Linux.
I hope that others will contribute. Thanks.

For Windows XP, the following link provides an easy step by step procedure.
How To Install Armenian Fonts & Keyboard Drivers On Windows XP

I have tested it on my laptop and it went smoothly. It would typically take about 10-15 minutes or less. I have successfully tested with both AC and WordPad using the Western Armenian keyboard driver. It's easy to toggle between two languages.

What if I find someone else when looking for you? My soul shivers as the idea invades my mind.

There's another way, in case you don't wanna mess up with regional settings.
You can download KDWIN utility from http://www.editum.com.ar/mashtots/ht...5t.html.Readme says it's for windows 95 but it works fine with XP as well. Next you need to find some armenian fonts and download those as well. And everytime you want to type in armenian you can run KDWin. The good thing about this utility is that it lets you edit the position of the keys, so you can choose whatever layout is more comfortable for you. It also lets you type in phonetic unicode and typwriter unicode modes as well as russian and a bunch of other languages.
