Re: Who Here is from Canada?

    Yellowknife is cool.
I was there a couple of years ago to redesign this magazine UpHere and the people were really friendly. I met some Armenian Diamond polishers and then did a story on CBC radio about how there's a growing population on Hayastansi going to live in Yellowknife. Sad_Eyes, Are you Hayastansi?

Ohhhh I read that artical, haig_armen. Some of them have very bad reputations here but others are thought of quite highly. Although, it was a very well written artical and I am pleased that you wrote about how the armenians here march with their flag in rememberance of the armenian genocide. That is VERY interesting that you have been here and met some of the greatest people I have ever had the privallege of knowing. No, I am not armenian. But, I embrace all armenians as my family. Such good people. Very hard working.

//M- If you like to be involved in outdoor activities, Yellowknife is a great place to live. Its a small town, but it is surrounded by lakes and hikeing trails etc. There is a small beach (although everyone here reffers to it as the lake with sand, its a mere illusion to a "real" beach), a couple if bars/pubs, etc. which does contribute towards this towns problem of public drunkness, a theatre, etc. If you like small cities than Yellowknife is a good place. But it has its downsides as well. Everyone knows everyone. You can pass by the same individal on the street at least 4 times a day. Word gets around here quickly as well. Its a quiet place but can get a little rowdy at times. It is also a VERY multi-cultural place. We have the asians, the armenians, the germans, the french, the phillipinos, the ukranians, the greeks, the russians, albanians, native americans, mexicans, etc. Which I think helps contribute to this cities quiet beauty. We also have the northern lights, which every year we have alot of Japanese tourists come here. They travel from Japan to stay here for three nights at a time (sometimes more) usually at the coldest time of the year, January-Feburary where it can reach to -40 to -50 degrees celcius to sit out on a frozen lake and look at the northern lights. Which to be honest, after 16 years of living here still leave me in aw.

Its a small town, and although I was born and raised half of my live in B.C, Yellowknife is home to me.
It sounds very far away and rather romantic, Rachel
But I've got a suspicion it probably isn't, and is a physically ugly place and with all those ethnic communities you mentioned at each others throat if given the chance or the alchoholic release. I don't see anything attractive in "multiculturalism" anyway (since I don't see anything attractive about a lie).
I wasn't very struck with Montreal, from what I saw of it on a brief visit I made there last year. Or Ontario also. Actually the only place I really liked was Kars, which was gorgeous (and ethnically very British). Yes there is a Kars in Canada! And I had to see it!
When the oil runs out - they are all going to freeze in Montreal. It'll be so much more true in places like Yellowknife.
          Plenipotentiary meow!

Canada is awesome. Vancouver is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. I was also shocked to see so many Armenians in Toronto and Montreal. It's just a little too cold for my blood.

I was born in Campbell River, B.C.(its on the island as well)I Lived there until I was a wee girl and moved here to Yellowknife with my family, obviously. But I have such fond memories of it. I was there a few years ago and spent some time at the ocean where my siblings and I would always be. I loved it then and I love it now.
