What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

Burbank AYF joins with Burbank ANC to commemorate the 93rd Anniversary of The Armenian Genocide

The Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) Burbank Chapter is taking over the
major duties this year from the Armenian National Committee (ANC) of
Burbank in organizing the commemoration of the 1915 to 1923 Armenian
Genocide, which left 1.5 million Armenians dead and 500,000 more
    ethnically-cleansed from their ancestral homeland.

On Tuesday, April 22 at 6 PM, Burbank AYF chairman Shunt Jarshafdjian
will accept a proclamation from Burbank Mayor Marsha Ramos, at the

After the presentation by Mayor Ramos commemorating the victims of the

Members from an Armenian-American scouting organization, the Homenetmen
Sipan Chapter of Burbank, will officially kick-off the candlelight vigil
with the presentation of the colors and the flag salute.

Speaking at the candlelight vigil will be Hovan Tashjian of the Armenian
Cultural Foundation (ACF) of Burbank and AYF Central Executive Casper
    Jivalagian.

There will also be a poetry reading accompanied by the playing of a

Schwarzenegger proclaims April 20-27 as Days of Remembrance of Armenian Genocide

        Photo: www.governor.ca.gov

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has proclaimed the week of April 20th through April 27th as “Days of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide,” the Armenian Assembly of America told PanARMENIAN.Net.

        The declaration says:

“Every April, we take time to commemorate the lives of those forever devastated by the Armenian Genocide. Between 1915 and 1923, more than one million Armenians were killed in the territory of the Ottoman Empire, and countless more lost everything they owned. Intellects and store owners, children and seniors, men and women, people from all walks of life were victims of these horrific acts. Often listed as the first genocide of the twentieth century, these events had a life-altering impact on many, and stimulated an Armenian Diaspora.

California has ensured that those lost and affected by this tragedy will not be forgotten. In 2006, I signed Assembly Bill 1210, authored by Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, to allow construction of a memorial for California’s survivors in Capitol Park. Additionally, in 2005, I signed Senate Bill 424 authored by Senator Chuck Poochigian, which designated in state law a specific time to observe the California Days of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide.

I ask all Californians to take time this week to reflect on this tragedy and its consequences. In joining our friends in the Armenian-American community in this observance, all of California helps remember the lives that were lost or changed by these fateful events.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim April 20-27, 2008, as “Days of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide.”

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 7th day of April 2008.

        ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER”

CAPITOL HILL SCREENING OF "THE LARK FARM" CAPTIVATES AUDIENCE

                armradio.am
                15.04.2008 13:43

Over 150 congressional staffers and community activists were present
for a special Capitol Hill screening of "The Lark Farm" (La Masseria
delle Allodole), a powerful film depicting the events of the Armenian
Genocide of 1915-1923, reported the Armenian National Committee of
                America, Eastern Region (ANCA-ER).

Hosted by the ANCA-ER, in cooperation with Rep. Daniel Lipinski
(D-IL-3), "The Lark Farm" tells the moving story of an Italian
Armenian family planning a visit to their home in Ottoman Turkey,
only to be caught up in the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923. It is
based on the novel "Skylark Farm" by Antonia Arslan, which has thus
far won 17 book awards in Europe, including the Italian P.E.N. Club
Award. Already translated into fourteen languages, "Skylark Farm"
was recently selected as a First Fiction Finalist for the 2008 Los
                Angeles Times Book Prize.

Addressing the crowd during his introductory remarks, Cong. Lipinski
stated, "I am very happy to have been able to play this role in
bringing this film here up to Capitol Hill. I know that the issue of
the Armenian Genocide is one that we have to keep working on bringing
                public attention to.

Unfortunately, it has been swept under the rug and we really need
to shine the light on it. This film really helps to do that, and
to spread the word about what happened there to so many millions
of Armenians." The representative concluded with "We need to fight
against genocide wherever it occurs to prevent future genocides."

The Lark Farm, directed by brothers Paolo Taviani and Vittorio Taviani,
was featured at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as in Spain and
Armenia. With an outstanding international cast, including Paz Vega,
Mohammed Bakri, Tcheky Karyo and Arsinee Khanjian, the film helps the
viewer understand the struggles and devastation that the Armenians
endured from Turkish authorities during the genocide.

Following the movie, Arslan addressed the crowd, during which attendees
thanked her for all that she had done to raise awareness on this
issue. On tour in America to promote her novel, which has recently
been released in paperback, Arslan has traveled throughout the world
speaking to hundreds of thousands about the story of her family. "I am
very excited about being in America. The warm welcome from the various
audiences I have spoken to, both Armenian and non-Armenian, has been
wonderful. I hope the novel and the movie can play a role in connecting
not only the Armenian communities throughout the Diaspora, but also
in connecting Armenians to those who do not have any connection to
the Armenian people at all. My family's story is really the story of
all those who struggled - and continue to struggle - for survival,
for life, during and after a genocide."

Siobhan Nash-Marshall, Professor of Philosophy at Manhattanville
College in New York City and close friend of Arslan, made a
powerful closing statement at the event, "Without truth, there is
no peace." Marshall, who hosted a book reading of Skylark Farm at
Manhattanville College earlier this month, has been instrumental in
pursuing the advancement of this issue through education.

Screening at British Parliament, sponsored by the Genocide Prevention Committee
On April 24th which commemorates the beginning of the Armenian Genocide, “Screamers” was officially screened in the British Parliament by the Genocide Prevention Committee, chaired by John Berkow, MP. The Honorable Member made the following statement:
“Timed to coincide with the 92nd anniversary of the horrific Armenian genocide, this harrowing film is the most powerful reminder that the evil of genocide is sadly not a thing of the past but has remained a recurrent feature in our world to the present day, from Armenia to the Holocaust, from Srebrenica to Rwanda, and now to Darfur. Bestial slaughter of whole peoples continues to blight humanity, shaming and diminishing us all. By pitching the film to young people who often will know nothing of earlier horrors, Carla is encouraging a new generation to treat the business of murder as their business to stop, through campaigning, protest and pressure.” John Berkow, MP

ARMENIAN COMMUNITY IN CYPRUS URGES TURKEY TO ACKNOWLEDGE GENOCIDE

                    PanARMENIAN.Net
                    25.04.2008 17:14 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Armenian community in Cyprus yesterday marked
the 93rd anniversary of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, with a call to
Ankara to recognize its historical crimes.

The anniversary was marked by a series of events under the auspices
of House of Representatives President Marios Karoyan.

Yesterday's event involved a service at the Armenian Church, and a
                    march in Nicosia.

Vartkes Mahdessian, Armenian Representative at the House, said that
the message the Armenian people wanted to send was one of continuous
struggle to internationalize and resolve the Armenian question,
and also to receive acknowledgement and condemnation of the genocide.

"Armenians will continue their struggle until the final justification,
a duty owed to the victims of the genocide," Mahdessian said. "It
is time that the political leadership of Turkey found the courage
to recognize the crimes the previous Turkish governments committed,
justifying the victims of not only the Armenian genocide but of the
Greeks, Cypriots, Kurds, Arabs, Pontic Greeks and other peoples,
in the hope that it will at some point join the European Union."

Karoyan, in an official statement, reiterated the support of the
House to the demand of the Armenian people for the recognition of
                    the genocide.

He called on Turkey to recognize and admit its crime and to apologize
to the Armenian people and humanity as a whole.

"We do not beg, we do not implore. We demand justice from the
contemporary democratic humanity, the entire international community,
all the nations and all the peoples. Nothing more, nothing less,"
                    he said, Cyprus Mail reports.

Armenian Community of Toronto Commemorates 93rd Anniversary of
                      Armenian Genocide

Toronto, Ontario - The Canadian-Armenian Community of Toronto will
be commemorating the 93rd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of
1915. Over 1.5 million Armenians perished in a systematic effort by
the Turkish government of the Ottoman Empire to eliminate the
indigenous Armenian population living peacefully on its historic
homelands. It was the Armenian Genocide which introduced the spectre
of holocaust to the 20th Century; a crime that has since been
duplicated in various forms in Nazi Germany, Rwanda and Darfur .

                      Date: Sunday, April 20, 2008

                      Time: 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Location: Armenian Youth Centre, 50 Hallcrown Place , Willowdale
(major intersection Victoria Park Ave. and Highway 401)

Members of all levels of Canadian government and major political
                      parties will be participating.

It is expected that 800 members of the Canadian-Armenian Community of
                      Toronto will attend.

Armenian National Committee of Canada, a grassroots organization that
was founded in 1965 to address the concerns of the Canadian Armenian
