Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

I'm not Armenian, I'm British, but I'd really like to help get recognition for the genocide, after all my government still denies the genocide and helped the perpetrators to get away with it, so anything I can do to help I will.

I live in Manchester in the UK, which is quite a long way from London, so I can't really go on any marches there.

But I did have an idea, and I'd like to ask if you guys think its a good idea or not, its probably a terrible idea but I'm thinking of going to Manchester Town Hall and protesting there on the 24th April, I could do something extreme like chain myself to the railings (sounds rediculous, but I'll do it) or just standing there with some kind of plaque saying 'Recognise the Armenian Genocide' or something.

I don't know? Any ideas any comments?

Hi atwa, welcome to the forum...

Thank you for showing interest in our cause by wanting to help us get the message heard. It's such a shame that after 90 years, we're still asking for a fair trial!! It's unbelievable...

Now about your plan... humm for some reason, chaining yourself to the railings doesn't sound right, lol... It will not gain the right attention! But protesting at the Manchester Town Hall seems like a good idea, you can hold signs with sayings such as "Turkey, complete the Ottoman Empire history, recognize the Armenian Genocide" or "still waiting for a fair trial"... or something down those lines.

Did you check the United Kingdom events listings? Nothing close by?
Anyway, do what you feel is right.

Turkey has inherited the Ottoman Empire which comes with it’s good and the bad if they are willing to keep the good which was the lands that use to belong to Armenians, Kurds, Assyrians, Greeks and so on …they should also recognize the crimes that comes with it, Turkey say it wasn’t us who did the massacres it was the Ottoman Empire who did it, yet they want to keep everything they have inherited from them, if Turks don’t want to recognize the crimes, the massacres and the genocide saying it’s not us who did it then return all the lands to their rightful people !!!!

But the thing is, the people responsible for the genocide were of turkish origins, they weren't Assyrians or Greeks or Kurds, they were Muslim Turks. So it's not really a matter of 'if they keep the land, they keep the responsibility'... They have to take the responsibility because it was their ancestors who committed it. And the whole denial attitude doesn't make them any different!

Also, they're not saying it's not us who did it... They're saying what happend was not a planned genocide to exterminate the Armenians(yeah right!) and that only some 200,000 Armenians died during "WWI" mainly of diseases... BIG JOKE!

I did look at the events listings but theres nothing happening near me, I think I'll just go down to Manchester Town Hall and stand there with some plaques.

Theres an Armenian Teverna right near the Town Hall, I've been meaning to go in there for a while, I'll have to persuade my family to go have lunch there one day.

Atwa, I like the plaque idea. Thank you for your support, on behalf of myself and my family, including those who parished in the Genocide - we honor you!

I should say, the UK is getting closer to recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Earlier this year two wales government officials openly recognized the Genocide during a debate in the chambers of the government. The taboo is being replaced with openness and fact finding activities. Now that the world realizes that Turkeys blackmail will not be tolerated when it comes to moral recognition of historical fact, it is only a matter of time. Turks would honestly be better off saving themselves the misery of dragging this out. In fact, if a group of intelligent Turks got together and decided to turn this into something positive for the country they would take bullets out of the Armenian gun by taking a proactive approach to the Genocide recognition. Picture this: without prodding, they turn around and recognize it on their own, erect a memorial, and open the border with Armenia. Imangine! The world would be stunned, and Armenians wouldn't know what to do. They would send the world into shock. And in the process make themselves hero's instead of villans. Well, don't get your hopes up, I am convinced that they like being villans. Until then... keep protesting - we will get there!

              Long live atwa!

first and foremost, i have to thank you atwa, for your compassion on the subject of the Armenian Genocide. eventhough i think chaining yourself is a bit extreme.lol. i think protesting is a fantastic idea. Its just sad to think that 90 years have gone by and were still fighting to have it recognized.

Until 1910s Armenians and Turks lived in harmony. But what was the reason of the fight. During 1910s, Armenians wanted to establish a new land eastern Anatolia with using the advantage of weakness of Ottomans and they rebelled.
Kroisos, where did you get 1910 from? Please do your homework before stating such things. What about the 200,000 Armenians that were massacred under the rule of Sultan Abdul-Hamid between 1893-1896? Check out some books at the library, or google "hamidian massacres". If you dare to trust an account from an Armenian site you can read this:

1.It is exciting for me, a British citizen to protest against denial of Turkey. Good for you atwa36.
2.Turkish Lies are a lot about the events of genocide. For example in official Ottoman archives about the massacres of 1894 you can read that in one day Ottomans killed 8 Armenians and the German, French, and Italian Ambasadors wrote a number about 1000 deads. The same about the events of 1915. The official Ottoman archives counted 56.000 Armenian deads. Even the team of Justin McArthy, Shaw, Lewry etc recognize that the Armenian deads were 600.000 at 1915. In my opinion probably deads were more, but you can see the lie of Ottoman archives. This culture is still living in Turkey.
                    3. Kroisos. We have something common. My father were like you 50% Greek. Probably you live in Turkey, so you love your country. It is hard for a citizen who loves his country to recognize the black pages of his history. I dont really like to give you advises but I recoment you some Turks historians like, Taner Acsam, Halil Berktay, Fekrit Adanir. They are "traitors" but why? In my opinion because they like the historian true.
                    4. If a Turk recognizes the Armenian Genocide probably he will be a better global citizen. Stop the isolation of Turkish Society.
