Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Armenian Genocide-making a documentary

Hi, I'm new here so I'm not sure exactly what sub catergory to put this thread in. I'm a member of a film group and I've decided to make a documentary on the Armenian Genocide for my high school. I first learned about it when I heard about System of a Down's tour and rally efforts to make the U.S. recognize the Genocide. While I do have permission to show the documentary at school, it is not something mentioned in our text books nor is it an issue discussed in any Social Studies class. I want to educate people on this issue and I was just seeing who here would be willing to help put this documentary. I do have a lot of links I can use to write narration but I need help looking for achive footage, if there is any out there. If anyone else can help just let me know.
    Regards,
    Ernie

Hi Ernie... welcome to the forums

See, this is why I love SOAD so much, they're doing a great job educating their fans about the genocide, it's funny (or sad?) how for political reasons history books hardly mention it and people have to learn about it through music and the net. So what exactly is it that you need? Maybe you can use some of the documents from our archives section... They're taken from United States and British National Archives and Records, if you want I can give you their group number and etc. You can use pictures too, I'm sure you can find that on the net. If you need something specific, ask.

Hi, thank you for welcoming me and I appreciate your willingness to help me out. Well I'm looking for any film footage I could get a hold of, I've seen small clips on news programs but nothing I can get a hold of. I have a lot of reasearch pulled together that I need to take a look at but I still need that visual aspect. By the way it doesn't have to concern only the event itself but I'm also discussing what lead to it and how it's dealt with in current day i.e. SOAD's efforts the U.S.' failure to recognize it the colapse of the Ottoman Empire etc. So any footage you can help me find concerning any of those issues would be much appreciated.

www.theforgotten.org has videos of survivors telling their stories.
There are also some great videos available for purchase at The Armenian Film Foundation. Click on the movie pictures to get more info on them.

Actually it's the other way around... If there wasn't a genocide, you wouldn't find anything on it. You wouldn't find any survival testimonies. If it never happened, why are there hundreds of survivors each with it's own family tragedy story? You woudn't find any eyewitness accounts. And tell me, what was Hitler referring to when he said "Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians" if it never happened? If it never happened, you woudln't find all those documents kept in U.S. and British Archives discussing a planned genocide. You wouldn't find foreign figures employed in Ottoman Empire at the time write books about it, such as the U.S. Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire Henry Morgenthau. You wouldn't find New York Times and London Times news articles discussing a genocide happening in Ottoman Empire at the time. If it never happened, why did the newpapers back then report it ? Did they want Kars too? And lasty, if it never happened you sure as hell wouldn't have 9 million Armenians worldwide working their butt off to get a worldwide recognition it deserves.
