Yuri Gagarin was the son of two farmers and born in Russia 1934 in the village "Klushino" that later on was renamed to "Gagarin" after Yuri.
Why the name change?
Because Russia won "The Space Race" against USA and Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space and first man ever to orbit planet Earth!

Sport: Abraham wears 22 screws to earn victory 23

Armenia-born Arthur Abraham stopped Canada’s Sebastien Demers in the third round Saturday night in a fourth defense of his IBF middleweight title.
In Bamberg, Germany, Abraham (23-0, 18 KOs) dropped Demers with a right hook with seconds left in the round after hitting the Canadian with numerous hard shots.
{ai223201.jpg|left}“When I won, I looked at my corner because I was proud. It was a question of honor,” Associated Press quotes Abraham as saying.
This was Abraham’s first bout since he had his jaw broken in two places during a fight with Edison Miranda of Mexico.
In Bamberg the 27-year-old Armenian fought with two titanium plates and 22 screws in his jaw.
Demers said beforehand he was going after Abraham's jaw.
“I tried, but he moves very well,” Demers said. “He’s a great boxer, but I thought I fought good for three rounds.”
Abraham was given a hero’s welcome in Armenia the following day. He told the local media he dedicated his latest victory to Armenia’s First Republic Day (marked on May 28).
The Germany-based boxing star said even though he performed under Germany’s flag, he was and would always remain an Armenian. Armenian flags are always present at arenas where Abraham fights.
“Every time after my victory I am proud that I come to my homeland,” Abraham said at a press conference in Yerevan Wednesday.
“The level of our Armenian [boxing] school is so high that I can always take first place in international arena. I have in me the spirits of both Germany’s and Armenia’s schools, because I learned a lot of things both in Armenia and Germany,” he added.
While in Armenia Abraham was received by President Robert Kocharyan, who congratulated him on the latest victory. “It is a pride for us that our compatriots in other countries achieve such heights,” he said.

Poland's hopes of reaching their first UEFA European Championship finals received an unexpected blow as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in Armenia.
Memorable week
The Group A leaders went into the game seeking a seventh successive victory yet they were far from their best against Ian Porterfield's side and could find no answer to Hamlet Mkhitaryan's second-half free-kick. For Armenia and their jubilant fans, it completed a memorable week following their first win in the section last Saturday, 2-1 in Kazakhstan.
Missed chances
After a slow start at the Republican stadium, the match came to life with a flurry of chances midway through the first half. After Armenia's Robert Arzumanyan had headed past the far post from a corner, Poland responded and Marek Saganowski was the first to force Gevorg Kasparov into action, the home keeper saving well as Saganowski slid in to connect with a low cross. Soon afterwards Kasparov had to tip over Jacek Krzynówek's free-kick and on the half-hour the pressure nearly brought a goal. Wojciech Łobodziński drove in a shot and when Kasparov could only parry the ball, Saganowski turned the rebound wide of a gaping goal.
Mkhitaryan strikes
Although Łobodziński flashed an attempt across goal on 57 minutes, Leo Beenhakker's team were not controlling proceedings as expected and the game slipped away from them when the breakthrough came on 66 minutes. Following Jacek Bąk's foul on Aram Hakobyan some 20 metres from goal, Mkhitaryan curled his free-kick over the Poland wall and beyond the despairing right arm of Artur Boruc.
Plenty to ponder
Poland substitutes Jakub Błaszczykowski and Maciej Żurawski both had efforts beaten away by Kasparov, yet the defeat might have been even more embarrassing had Arman Karamyan not spurned a clear opportunity in added time. Rather than going into the summer with an eight-point lead, Poland's result leaves them looking suddenly vulnerable given their immediate pursuers in Group A, Portugal and Serbia, both have two games in hand – and Poland must still visit that pair when qualifying resumes in the autumn.

Fuad Musayev not believes Fuad Esedov resigns for health problem

“I don’t believe Fuad Esedov has resigned from the post of AFFA secretary general for health problem”, former AFFA president Fuad Musayev told APA-Sport.
Musayev said Esedov faced pressure.
“They bothered Esedov and he had to resign. He probably had some disagreement with the leadership”, he said.
Esedov worked as vice-president in 2000-2003 when Musayev was AFFA president. Former AFFA vice-president Togrul Hadjiyev also thinks health problem is an excuse.
“Esedov suffered diabetes when we worked together. It is common for officials to justify health problem for resignation”, he said.
Hadjiyev thinks Esedov has resigned in order to shirk responsibility if Azerbaijan suffers failure in Euro qualifying matches against Armenia in September.
“I don’t want Esedov to resign because, as AFFA vise-president Rauf Aliyev said, the federation has wasted a great amount of money. Esedov is also engaged in here. He decided to escape before the match against Armenia”, he said.
Former AFFA secretary general Chingiz Ismayilov stressed that health problem is not serious reason for resignation.
“Esedov does have health problem but he looks much better than he did five years ago. I think there is some other reason here”, he said.
Ismayilov stated that Esedov was the only one among AFFA leadership-in-office who has knowledge of football. He noted that the reason of the resonation is pressure.
“Esedov might have been demanded to resign. He took the step because he knows that it is impossible to develop football in 5 or 10 years. AFFA reminds an office. Not a federation. learned about his next opponent - the undefeated IBF middleweight
champion will make his second mandatory defence against Universum´s
Khoren Gevor. "That is no surprise for me," King Arthur stated. "I
only took one week off in Armenia after my last fight and then started
practicing straight away. I will be ready."
Some weeks ago Gevor did not look like a potential Abraham opponent
as he is only rated fifth by the IBF. But with Edison Miranda,
the original mandatory challenger, losing and European champion
Amin Asikainen taking on Sebastian Sylvester in Zwickau on June 23,
Gevor has been made mandatory challenger. "Of course Arthur is the
favourite," coach Ulli Wegner said.
"One must not underestimate Gevor, though, even though his name might
only ring a bell with a few experts. He is fundamentally sound and
a strong fighter. Arthur should not take him lightly."
The fight will also spell only the second duel between coaching
legends Ulli Wegner and Universum´s Fritz Sdunek. "We have known
each other for ages," said Wegner. "Back in the GDR, we competed in
many fights. I have a lot of respect for him and truly appreciate the
work he is doing for Universum." Their only meeting in professional
boxing came in November 2000 when Vitali Klitschko clinched a points
decision over Wegner´s Timo Hoffmann.
Abraham´s training camp on Majorca will come to an end this weekend.
"Then we will start with the video analysis and get Arthur in perfect
shape in Berlin," Wegner said. Time, date and the promoting organizers
for the fight still have to be determined. "We have already picked
up the negotiations with Universum," Sauerland managing director
Chris Meyer said. "Of course it is our goal to stage the fight of
our champion." If all goes according to plan for Sauerland Event,
the fight will go down in Germany in August.

UEFA TO MAKE A FINAL DECISION

The venue of the Armenia-Azerbaijan football meeting is still unknown. The UEFA Executive Committee is due to make a final decision on the venue June 23.
Armenia’s stance is already known: the country is ready to host the Azeri team. In case Azerbaijan guarantees security, Armenians are ready to compete in Baku.
It is due to mention that Azeris want to compete in a neutral zone.
Obviously, one of the countries will lodge an appeal as it will be discontent with the UEFA decision.
Armenia will apply to the Sport Court in case UEFA decides to hold the meeting in a neutral zone.
The Sport Court (CAS) will hardly succumb to Azerbaijan’s whims.
Nevertheless, let’s hope that UEFA will make an impartial decision as UEFA President Michel Platini supports the Armenian stance.
Armen Minasyan, the Executive Manager of the Armenian Football Federation, informed A1+ that the venue of the meetings should be known 60 days before the meeting.
To remind, the meetings are scheduled for September 8 and 12.
