Hmm. Could it be then you are looking for marginal Turks who will accept your ideas and act according to them in your forums? People debate and talk therefore learn about the other side. I learned much about Armenian people from this forum. As to Armenians being alike the Istanbul Armenians are quite like us in many ways. The rest however I do not know. I do not think people are talking to each (Turk-Armenian) other because they hope they can empose their ideas. This is communicating regardless of its level...

ARMENIAN PATRIARCH OF TURKEY SAYS ANKARA CONTINUES DISCRIMINATORY POLICY AGAINST NON-MUSLIMS
ISTANBUL, MARCH 23, ARMENPRESS: In an interview to a Turkish daily Hurriyet the Armenian Patriarch of Turkey and Istanbul, Archbishop Mesrop Mutafian, said the government of Turkey continued the discriminatory policy against its non-Muslim national minorities.
As an example he cited a government decision that exempts donations to Muslim foundation from taxes and imposes huge taxes on donations to Christian and other religious foundations. He said also the government pays for electricity consumed by mosques, while this privilege does not apply to Christian churches, though Christians, like Muslims are also citizens of Turkey and pay taxes.
Mutafian cited another example, saying the government pays for accommodation of Muslim pilgrims when they visit holly Islam sites. which is not the case with Christians and Jews when they make pilgrimage to Jerusalem. "All these manifestations of discrimination make Christians feel humiliated," the Armenian Patriarch said, adding also that the government has not responded to the Armenian Patriarchate's request to open a theological department at an Istanbul University for Christian Armenian students.

It's shame to judge someone for his/her race, but most of these happening out of ignorance it is not like the racism in Europe especially in France or in Germany. Those who once lived with Armenians are not behaving like that, when there was a Armenian community in Malatya, people would be real nice neighbours with each other up until 50s,early 60s. But when this tension increased between Turkey and diasporans and people didnt have the chance to know Armenians in person, they might have developed prejuidices towards Armenians.
One example is "Meral Aksener" a female minister for the previous government, she was the minister of the interior and she is of Ulkucu/NAtionalist Action pArty origin, or greywolf. She once called Abdullah Ocalan as "Ermeni Dolu", the "son of an Armenian". After her time in the government, in an interview she was asked about if there was anything that she had mistaken during her time. She said "I really feel sorry and terrible about using 'Ermeni DOlu' son of Armenian for PKK leader, Ocalan", and she apologized Armenian community for using that insult for Ocalan.

So as I see the majority of the problem lies in ignorance, not like a councious racism that exists in Europe.

Today Archbishop Mutafian is on his ultimate adventure: he has decided to sue the largest charitable Armenian organization in the Diaspora, under the pretext of reversing the AGBU Board's decision to close down the Melkonian Educational Institute in Cyprus. The AGBU has met all its obligations to the Patriarchate; therefore, Mutafian has no legal leg to stand on. He is obviously out for trouble.

Since Archbishop Mutafian's record demonstrates amply that all along he has been serving the Turkish government's political agenda, it is inconceivable that he would engage in this new effort without the authorities' consent, encouragement and certainly design.

The Turks have always tried to damage the AGBU's reputation. Government controlled media has accused the organization many times that all its fund-raising drives to keep the school open and to provide relief have been intended to train terrorists. Even during the occupation of Cyprus one of the first targets to be bombed was the Melkonian Educational Institute.

Thus far, the Turkish authorities failed to damage the AGBU. Today, they seem to have found a helping hand in the adventurous person of Archbishop Mutafian.

If he were truly concerned with the demise of an Armenian educational institution, he would better serve his community by suing the Turkish government in International Court at The Hague to reopen the Holy Cross Seminary in Istanbul. His colleague at the Fenerbahce, the Greek Ecumenical Patriarch, has been fighting to reopen his seminary and it looks as though he will succeed.

Armenians traditionally have instant respect when confronted by an person in clergy garb - more so with Istanbul Armenians, who have enjoyed the spiritual leadership of inspirational patriarchs over many centuries. Some clergymen have taken advantage of that respect and they have abused that clergy garb and rank. Archbishop Mutafian seems to be one of them.

The Melkonian Educational Institute alumni, who may have legitimate concerns about the demise of their beloved school, would lose the credibility of their cause by playing into the Turkish hands.
