Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

FT: Has Turkey's Enthusiasm for Europe been Misplaced?

FT: Has Turkey's Enthusiasm for Europe been Misplaced?

            Published: Thursday, June 29, 2006

In a special report on Turkey, the Financial Times (Wednesday June 28 2006) examines the latest state of affairs in the country; from the storm-battered economy to the assassination of an administrative judge, which set political parties in Turkey at each others throats.

Suggesting that perhaps Turkey’s enthusiasm for Europe has been misplaced, the FT defines the country’s securing a date for the start of accession negotiations with the EU as perhaps Prime Minister Erdogan’s defining moment.

“In bear-hugging Mr. Erdogan, Europe was bear-hugging Turkey,” contends the FT.

With the general elections 18 months away, the Turkish public’s enthusiasm for the EU is fading fast.

PM Erdogan remains unwilling to base his election campaign on the EU accession, though he is fast running out of possible platforms.

Turkey and Europe appear to have long harbored mutual suspicions.

For many in Europe, Turkey is too big, too Muslim, too poor, too rural; in short not really European.

As such, Turkey can never become a full member of the EU.

This European attitude; however, has not prevented the EU and Turkey from pursuing an active dialogue.

A notable legacy of this long-running relationship is Ankara’s associate membership with the Union.

This dialogue with the EU was conducted by a choice few until the arrival of Mr Erdogan in 2002. With Erdogan’s arrival, dialogue with the EU changed dramatically.

The purpose of previous governments’ rhetoric with the EU was never quite understood by the Turkish public, as these parties were unwilling to meet most of the EU’s demands.

Unlike previous administrations, the AKP government was willing to meet--and did so--certain EU demands, such as a Cyprus solution in return for greater freedoms of religious expression.

AKP supporters and a great majority of the Turkish people want an end to restrictions on the wearing of the headscarf.

Though powerful secular institutions--the courts, bureaucracy, and the military to name a few--are not in favor of relaxing restrictions on the headscarf.

Mr. Erdogan counted on the EU for the solution to this nagging problem.

But, last year’s verdict of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Leyla Sahin’s case upheld Turkey’s stance against the young woman.

Leyla Sahin had taken the country to court for her expulsion from university for refusing to remove her scarf in class.

The ECHR decision came as shock and a bitter disappointment to AKP and its supporters.

This was a clear indication of what the EU would and would not be willing to offer Turkey.

If you are upset because Turkey will not give any concession after holding debate, You are wasting your time. It is impossible my friend.I don't know any power to make Turkey to do that.
But Turkey will and must do reforms on its own. There is a clear need for reforms.I will support AKP or another on this.
On the other hand US wanted a moderate Islamic government in Turkey , but US hit the axe to stone Now US have decided to give way to its old dogs.Especially to set the New World Order into the Middle East .They need the ones who made Turkey like a colony to US.The ones made Turkey to lost 60 years. The ones whose votes are below 5% in the last election. There is a great anger for the West in Turks because of the war in Iraq. E.U. is starting to take its share from this anger The political parties lost their credits in Turkish People so it is not important on which party there is a US support.

Latest thrashes at AKP have made the old rags dream of a good old days (for them) rivival. Mesut, Tansu, Suleyman and their henchmen have all gone hype in the last few weeks. I guess they see a possible void or for the sake of keeping conspiracies high they have been given order from the US to pursue their goals full throttle I really dont want to see these bloodsuckers on the scene again. What I dream of is a central left or right party led by Kemal Dervish. AKP must go.

The Neo-cons in Washington can't wait for the old-guard to take over in Turkey. They have a severe hatred of the AKP and I hazard to guess wouldn't mind if there was another coup.

Kemal Dervish, it seemed like his star was on the rise at one time, what happened?
