You know this is a really interesting bit of info that I will be sharing with everyone I know=) Other than that, my blood almost literally boils everytime I hear about this fella and the fact that he links himself to Turks in any way is absolutely loathsome period. As for the people who were responsible for those bombings, they are possibly young ignorant men with low IQ who cannot think for themselves but can easily be "aired up" to think what they are doing is something sacred - which is essentially and nothing but blowing themselves up. Young men (and I apologize to all of the male kind here) can sometimes be extremely stupid in their actions perhaps they are driven by testosterone...But its very easy to stir up extreme hatred and racism in those with weak minds and little life experience. They think themselves heroes, they are nothing but puppets in the hands of something far more sinister. So I pity them. I pity them profoundly.

Analysing America propagandistic media is so easy.
"Al-Qaeda's Hand In Istanbul Plot" reads the headline, "specifically authorized by bin Laden" says the text. Eyecatching, and almost nothing to do with the actual story. It is even admitted in the article that the plot was hatched before they even met Bin Laden.
Little mention of the real root causes, internal social and political conditions within Turkey, but all that's probably a taboo subject for the likes of the Washington Post. Similarly, no mention of the ideological basis behind much radical Islamic thought in Turkey: the re-establishment of the Caliphate.
Other little nuggets:
"...conspiracy conceived long before the United States sent troops to Iraq". They can't help still flogging that "increasing terrorism has nothing to do with our invasion of Iraq" lie. What do you have to do to actually silence these neocons - a stake through their electorial hearts didn't do it.
"A native of Mardin, an ancient Turkish city where Arabic is still spoken". Of course this is wrong. Mardin is not historically Turkish - the writer will know that (also of course). But it gives them the chance to mention Arabic, and thus by implication Arabs, since in US-speak being Arab, or speaking Arabic must guarantee fanaticism.
"He hosted study groups dedicated to memorizing the Koran". Erm, that's almost the sole function of almost every Islamic school in Turkey. I wonder if the Washington post will be doing a piece about Israel (or New York, for that matter) being full Jewish study groups dedicated to memorizing Hebrew scripture.Plenipotentiary meow!

Since you mention Arabs, there's a very interesting book called (what a surprise!) "The Arabs" by Peter Mansfield for anyone who's interested. Published by Puffin. Could probably find it in Amazon. Haven't read it yet, my father is reading it as he is so interested in anything about History but will read it soon out of pure curiosity.

So what if Bin Laden is of partial Turkish descent?

As long as Bin Laden having partial Turkish ancestry isn't going to be used in some kind of attempt to label Turkish people as terrorists or extremists then that's fine with me.
