Armenian Genocide - help

Hello I have a project on the Armenian Genocide and I have been researching but can not find out one fact: Why did the Young Turks decide to have a genocide on the Armenian People? Sorry if this is a thread in here already. Please help, thank you.

Hard to give an exact date but most likely 1923. But it should be known that well after WWI there were continuous massacres, forced conversions, seizures of property, and expulsions of the remaining Christians in Turkey. Additionally, during WWII religious minorities were sent to work camps in the interior as the result of not being able to pay the extremely onerous "wealth tax" levied on minority households and businesses. Thousands more died. After further pogroms in 1955 against Greeks and Armenians, the remaining Greek population fled which is why there are so very few Greeks in Turkey today. Many more Armenians left during that time. Of about 300,000 or so Armenians that remained in Turkey after WWI, only 60,000 are still there after several decades.

It never did. With the assassination of Hrant Dink last year the Human-Genocide aspect is still evident. This act was the suppression of a powerful figure capable of bring the Genocide to the world's attention much like the intellectuals were targeted first on the night of April 24, 1915. The Azeri Turks have carried out unprovoked pogroms against Armenians in Baku and Sumgait and have (after ethnically cleansing Nakhijevan of it's ethnic Armenian population - which is sadly, seldomly mentioned by Armenians) attempted to eliminate Armenian presence in Nagorno Karabagh first by massacres against innocent civilian populations and second by all out war.

Secondly, the Cultural aspect of the Genocide is not only evident, it is argued that it's at a new height currently with the desecration of Surp Akhtamar Church in Van and Surp Arakelots Church in Kars as very recent examples. The Azeri Turks, for their part have bulldozed the midieval Khatchkar cemetery of "Hin Jugha" and eliminated all evidence of Armenian historical origin in Nakhijevan.
