Human Rights Abuse in Turkey

Amnesty International website shows over 360 reports on Turkey since 1998. Ten years later it seems things are getting worse rather than better.

I am spreading this all over the internet. Al Jazeera just started a subject on human rights, UN, and the worst violators. So far they have been allowing my posts.

What really gets to me is that most Turks believe this be normal human behavior and are shocked when someone says something.

In November, Gülcihan Şimşek, a DTP member and mayor of the city of Van, received a one-year prison sentence for referring to PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan as “Mr”.

They should've called him retard. It looks like its still 1940 in Turkey. You placed Hitler's, Stalin's, or Lenin's pictures upside down accidentally and you'd be sent to jail with a life sentence, most of the time. Other times, you'd just get shot in the head. Man were they civilized.

I thought Stalin and Lenin was Russia. But yeah I get what you are saying, its a cult of personality thing again. Hiter, Stalin and xxxkurtlar like leaders were monsters, Lenin had some good policies, but some I also turn a stink eye to. Its a pity Stalin ousted Trotsky, I think he would have been better as leader of the Soviet Union.

Human rights sucks big time in Turkey although some progress has been made in some areas because of their EU ambition.On the other hand, as a Greek I can`t say I`m very proud of human rights in Greece either.There are many things that could be done in order to improve human rights in both countries(Greece and Turkey).

Yes, but I was also speaking more in general terms.We are probably going to have new elections in Greece.There have been too many scandals with the current center-right government.The problem with Greece is that it has become a two party state.The corruption in Greece is a huge problem; if Greece wouldn`t been an EU member it would probably be even worse I guess.

The treatment of some minorities and immigrants could have been much better.I don`t like the Greek church`s influence in politics - though it has decreased lately.Some Greek priests are acting like businessmen and do everything to make money instead of trying to help people in need.

As for the riots, the policeman who shot 15-year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos must be jailed for life - I doubt however that this will happen.When it comes to the violent demonstrators they should be ashamed of themselves.Smashing cars, throwing molotovs against the police, smashing windows, looting shops...etc is totally unacceptable.A lot of these demonstrators seems to be anarchists.

Anyway, I`m really sad for what happened to 15-year old Alexandros.May he rest in peace.

As for the riots, the policeman who shot 15-year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos must be jailed for life - I doubt however that this will happen.When it comes to the violent demonstrators they should be ashamed of themselves.Smashing cars, throwing molotovs against the police, smashing windows, looting shops...etc is totally unacceptable.A lot of these demonstrators seems to be anarchists.

When we holidayed in Corfu in August there were riots and a police station was attacked after local police and businessmen had attacked and killed a woman who had protested about the siting of a landfill site. Did that make the national press Alexandros?

The reports indicate that the trade unions have said that they succeeded in paralyzing Greece today. Certainly the airports were closed, large parts of public transport were closed and civil servants did not go to work. Alexandro, are you over there? The government is thinking of declaring Marshal Law.

I also heard that the lawyer for the two officers accused of the killing has said that ballistics show that he was killed by a ricochet and not a direct shot. Sounds fishy to me.

BTW, I don’t work for Al J guys; I just think that their News is the most balanced, no bull dust, none influenced, and not a part of main stream media.
