Group Issues Call to Gather Armenian and Turkish Children

During an evening of artistic performances entitled “Without Hrant 2″, the Istanbul-based group “Friends of Hrant Dink” issued a call to bring together Armenian and Turkish children.On Monday evening, at the Lutfi Kirdar International Congress and Exhibition Center, a choir singing sacred Armenian songs took the stage followed by a slideshow of photos of Dink’s childhood in an Armenian orphhanage.
The text read over the photosunderlined the need to bring Armenian and Turkish children together on April 23, the day when Turkey celebrates its National Sovereignty and Childrens Day. There was also a call for the holiday to be extended to include April 24, the day marking the beginning of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. A documentary was also shown describing the events that led to Hrant Dink’s assassination two years ago and the trial of his susoected killers.
At the end of the evening well-known singer Sezen Aksu took the stage. The audience included Dink’s wife, Rakel Dink, and her family, as well as many of Dink’s friends and Şişli Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül. Amongst the hundreds of attendees were not just Armenians but people from many different backgrounds.
