  • How important is it

to you, personally, that the United States government officially recognise the Armenian Genocide? Do you care if the United States ever officially does this?

    2. When the United States finally does recognise the Armenian Genocide, how do you see this changing anything?

As far as I am concerned, we should leave history to the historians much like we should leave science to the scientists and philosophy to philosophers. Who cares whether a bunch of politicians decide to "recognize" the true facts about history?

What is important is that the facts are all out there and well documented, recognized, and acknowledged by the real academics.
    this post = teh win.

      The benefits

1)It will show that Turkey is no longer a significant partner for US.
2)This will be a punishment for Turkey's pressure on US as to Kirkuk referandum and Turkey's unwillingness for The Kurds',who have been an dedicated ally of US, emergence as a regional power
3)Another great step for international recognition.
4)It will also interest those who are aware not of Armenian genocide
5)It will accalerate the process of Turks' oust from the civilised lands.
6)Ultimately,it is a good thing for attaining Great Armenia goal
      Negative Points
Nothing substantial but better take a look at this

The recognitions or condemnations mean nothing if there is no punishment for Turkey, the punishment could be the least consolation to us.
The facts about the Genocide have been there since ninety years ago, furthermore I don’t care whether any Rafael or Samuel have confirmed that or used the word genocide, decades later.

Let me give you a hypothetical question. If a person were to premeditate a murder that took out 3/4 of your family. They would take all your assets, home, money and the innocence of the female family members. Would you not want that person to be held accountable for murder.

What is the difference here! Any family member would want that person to be tried and held accountable for murder. And there are still survivors of the genocide that are still waiting to get that piece of mind.

Sip, I do not understand this line of thinking. Regardless, of our current life in the diaspora (comfort/security). We have our roots in Anatolia, and sadly the end of many of our people was there. What does it matter for survivors, their decendents, and the continuation of an Armenian state to have a political solution? Everything, it provides for some measure of punishment for what was done and creates a political climate in which it would be increasingly difficult for TR to continue with hostile policies towards Armenia. As for the academics.... what good has come from their knowledge of the truth. The resolution of any conflict is on the political front not in a text book.

another step in a political battle. ideally it forces the facists out of the woodwork in TR.

                    New question:

When the US recognises the Genocide, do you think they will force their beliefs on Turkey or will it just be a token statement quickly burried and nothing much will ever come of it?
