Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

The other day I came by a video of Hrant Dink. In 5 minutes of watching that video did more to make me think about this issue than anything I had come across before. Why? The man's approach. He was careful not to offend. He appealed to the humanity in Turks. Even if you disagreed with him, you could respect his position fore he held no animosity towards Turks and you could see this clearly.

My father had a negative impression of this man and felt he was murdered because he wanted to split Turkey apart. This was the information he was given. However, I showed him the video and his eyes watered and he got emotional. He said the man was a good person and walked away not to show how touched he was. My father is a very proud man and loves his country and yet Hrant's approach, manner of tackling this issue got to him.

If ever there is to be reconciliation between Turks and Armenians then taking the approach of Hrant Dink is the key. I regret his death, and I regret that a 17 year old Turk whose pride for his people was turned into a hatred for another. Hate breeds hate.

And yet, Hrant's approach got him killed. I'm glad your father was touched by what he saw, and judged Hrant by his actual intentions in the end. However, as his murder is a testament to, this by no means indicates that Turks in general are more accepting to his approach than the more vehement ones. In Turkish nationalist's eyes, any mention of Armenian massacres is considered an enraging insult, and invokes hostility. The "angry Armenia" reaction you so often see is an emotional response to the "angry Turkish" denial. Attitudes are contagious, and the anger on both sides has quickly spread and enveloped the masses.

You need look no further than these forums to find out why Armenians are up in arms (no pun intended) about the genocide. Almost everyday, 1 or more Turks post their carbon copy lists of "evidence" that the genocide is a "lie". Everyday, the Armenian members have to keep refuting these same, weak attempts at discrediting their side. Obviously, they're eventually going to get tired of the repetitive arguments, and simply say "get out of here you (inter explicit language here)", which makes many of these Turks feel they "won" because "Armenians have no answer for my comments/questions!" when in reality, this is not the case at all. The comments/questions have been addressed dozens of times over.

Unfortunately, there is no good approach to this subject matter. Turks are too angered by being accused of the crime, and Armenians are too hurt by the decades of its denial to be "civilized" in discussing it. Such is the way with matters as sensitive and emotional as this.

Re: Armenian approach towards Turks needs to Change

            Hi there,

Well, being an ethnic Balkan Turk I support the way Hrant Dink tried to approach this problem. The humane way always is the rightous one. He was a good man. Sad that we have lost him as a result of an ultranationalistic plot.

Lately I have been realizing more and more that for the past 120 years the Turkish politics were so anomalous, so un-Turkish. Couldn't explain it until I came across an interesting video interview Interview with Christopher Jon Bjerknes with an author of an unusual book named "The xxxish Genocide of Armenian Cristians" claiming the crypto xxxs orchestrated (Young Turks) all the massacress against Armenians.

Basically they have worked on both sides. First provoked Sultan then infiltrated Dashnak and Hinchak movements and then just set the fire. They had difficulty convincing the ordinary Turks against Armenians (Turks didn't have a clue about nationalism at that time and Armenians were long lasting good neighbors/friends) then they decided to use mostly Kurds(Hamidiye) during deportations. If it is true, such a terrible plot for both parties...

I always felt sorry for the fate of Armenians. Based on the new evodence I agree we need to change our approach against each other! Having this opportunity to appeal to you, I want to express my big sympathy to Armenians who were our closest friends for long years. We would have been stronger separately or together if we didn't fall in the trap of these Zionists... They used us as tools of their Imerialistic goals... Anyway, salut to you wounded friends!

I fully agree with what is being said, Hate breeds Hate and somewhere along the line the vicious cycle needs to be broken.
