    (Editorial piece by Turkish contributor)

by Paul Gottfried by Paul Gottfried DIGG THIS Although it was not the intention of my remarks against the perpetually repugnant Abe Foxman (whose latest caper, by the way, has been to warn Catholics against the Latin Mass as an anti-Semitic time bomb) to belittle any group’s past sufferings, my implied objection was simply about characterizing the Armenian massacre in 1915 as "genocide." The fact that the crimes in question fit the tendentious UN definition, which conveniently omits the largest number of murder victims in the twentieth century, the victims of Communist "class war," is not a particularly convincing reason … Continue reading →

What if I find someone else when looking for you? My soul shivers as the idea invades my mind.

Time For Decent xxxs to Stand Up and Be Heard
            By Christopher Jon Bjerknes
            August 22, 2007
When the indecent xxxish “Young Turks” took over the Ottoman Empire and began to slaughter Christians in 1909 and 1911, Brits pleaded with decent Western xxxs to do something to end the carnage. Their cries for help not only went unheeded, but indecent xxxish leaders defamed those who spoke out on behalf of the Armenian Christians, whom xxxs were mass murdering in the Ottoman Empire. Then, in 1915, these xxxs who led the Ottoman Empire genocided 1.5 million Armenian Christians.
If decent xxxs had spoken out, these 1.5 million Armenians would not have been murdered. The same happened in 1919, when Brits begged decent xxxs to demand that the indecent xxxish Bolsheviks stop mass murdering Christian Slavs. Again, indecent xxxish leaders ridiculed these cries for help, and decent xxxs were largely silent. Tens of millions of Christian Slavs then perished at the hands of xxxish Bolshevists like Lazar Kaganovich.
Today, Armenians are merely asking for recognition of the crimes perpetrated against them. xxxish leaders have long obstructed such recognition — little wonder why. When we tell the truth about these crimes, defamations are hurled at us for reporting the facts. It is high time for decent xxxs to demand that this end once and for all time.
Today, indecent xxxish leaders are defaming Moslems and mass murdering them in Iraq, Palestine and recently in Lebanon; just as they defamed Armenian and Slavic Christians before genociding them. -- Printable PDF file

Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reverses course, recognizes Armenian genocide
            By Keith O'Brien, Globe Staff
            Tuesday, August 21, 2007
The national office of the Anti-Defamation League reversed its long-held position today and acknowledged the Armenian genocide of 1915, saying in a statement that the mass killings of that era at the hands of the Ottoman Turks "were indeed tantamount to genocide."
However, the statement reaffirms the national ADL's belief that the legislation pending in Congress to recognize the genocide is "a counterproductive diversion."
The ADL's statement, released to the Globe and on the group's website this afternoon, came "in light of the heated controversy," which began weeks ago in suburban Watertown, where more than 8,000 Armenian-Americans call home. Days earlier, the ADL's national director, Abraham H. Foxman, fired the regional director of the New England ADL for making a similar statement.
Anti-Defamation League (ADL) rehires New England director
            By Keith O'Brien, Globe Staff
            Monday, August 27, 2007
The national Anti-Defamation League rehired its New England regional director today, barely a week after firing him for publicly breaking with the national leadership and acknowledging the Armenian genocide that began in 1915.
The move to rehire Andrew H. Tarsy as regional director marked the second time in a week that the human rights organization has reversed course under pressure from the xxxish and Armenian-American communities. But Abraham H. Foxman, the ADL's national director, said he did not rehire Tarsy simply to appease critics.
What mattered, Foxman said in an interview with the Globe today, was that the two men "see eye to eye." Tarsy was rehired, effective immediately, after conversations held over the last week. Both men said they are now moving forward together, rather than apart, and were happy to put their public rift behind them.
            By Keith O'Brien, Globe Staff
            August 18, 2007

            Andrew H. Tarsy
The national Anti-Defamation League fired its New England regional director yesterday, one day after he broke ranks with national ADL leadership and said the human rights organization should acknowledge the Armenian genocide that began in 1915.
The firing of Andrew H. Tarsy, who had served as regional director for about two years and as civil rights counsel for about five years before that, prompted an immediate backlash among prominent local xxxish leaders against the ADL's national leadership and its national director, Abraham H. Foxman.
"My reaction is that this was a vindictive, intolerant, and destructive act, ironically by an organization and leader whose mission -- fundamental mission -- is to promote tolerance," Newton businessman Steve Grossman, a former ADL regional board member, said yesterday.
"I predict that Foxman's actions will precipitate wholesale resignations from the regional board, a meaningful reduction in ADL's regional fund-raising, and will further exacerbate the ADL's relationship with the non-xxxish community coming out of this crisis around the Armenian genocide."
Tarsy, 38, said he had been struggling with the national position for weeks and finally told Foxman in a phone conversation Thursday that he found the ADL's stance "morally indefensible."
The regional board's executive committee backed Tarsy and, according to a source fa miliar with the discussion, even went a step further, resolving to support legislation now pending before Congress to acknowledge the deaths of 1.5 million Armenians during the World War I era as genocide.
The national office's three-page response -- which it provided yesterday to the Globe -- did not mention the local office's intent to support the legislation. But it made clear just how far apart the two sides were on an issue with local, national, and international implications.
The letter, signed by Foxman and Glen S. Lewy, the ADL's national chairman, said "we have acknowledged the massacres of Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire and called on Turkey to do more to confront its past and reconcile with Armenia. We will continue to press Turkey, publicly and privately . . ." But the letter also makes clear that the national ADL feels the safety of Israel, which considers Turkey a rare Muslim ally, is paramount.
The national ADL leaders also said employees who do not agree with the ADL's position should not differ pubicly, but should resign. "No organization can or should tolerate such an act of open defiance," the letter said.
Asked how they would resolve the difference of opinion, both local and national leaders said they did not know.
"They've taken a position," Foxman said in an interview. "We've taken a position. I hope they will read our position and hopefully we'll have conversations."
Tarsy's firing -- and the national office's rebuke of the local office's independence -- marked the latest twist in a debate that began weeks ago in Watertown, home to more than 8,000 Armenian-Americans. Residents there became angry when they learned that the ADL was the sponsor of the town's anti-bigotry program "No Place For Hate" and, on Tuesday this week, the Watertown Town Council voted unanimously to pull out of the program.
At issue was not the program itself, but rather a tangle of international politics dating back more than 90 years. From 1915 to 1923, Ottoman Turks massacred as many as 1.5 million Armenians in what is now modern-day Turkey. Armenians, historians, and some European nations have recognized the killings as genocide. But the Turkish government has refused to accept the genocide label and the national ADL refuses to use it as well.
In a 438-word open letter slated to appear in advertisements inside local newspapers beginning next week, the ADL does not use the word genocide. Officially, Foxman reiterated yesterday, the ADL has no position on the genocide issue. But it does not support the legislation in Congress. In the open letter yesterday, the ADL called it "counterproductive" and the organization, founded in 1913 to fight anti-Semitism, worried what effect passing the legislation would have on xxxs living in Turkey.
Critics say this position is hypocritical. Foxman "should understand that the truth of any genocide is not conditional upon political relationships," said Aram Hamparian, executive director of the Armenian National Committee of America in Washington, D.C. Rather, he said, it should be dictated by "truth" and "history."
As recently as Tuesday night, however, Tarsy defended the ADL's position before a hostile crowd at the Watertown Town Council meeting. In explaining why he did it, Tarsy said yesterday that he was doing the best he could to explain the ADL policy while struggling at the same time to change the policy internally. Neither side would back down and he was fired.
"I have been in conflict over this issue for several weeks," Tarsy said. "I regret at this point any characterization of the genocide that I made publicly other than to call it a genocide. I think that kind of candor about history is absolutely fundamental."
Both the xxxish and Armenian-American communities rushed to Tarsy's defense yesterday in the wake of his firing and applauded him for taking the stand that ultimately cost him his job.
"I'm devastated to hear the news," said Ronne Friedman, senior rabbi at Temple Israel, the largest synagogue in Boston. "I think he's really a quality professional and a wonderful person of conscience. I think it's an inexcusable behavior on the part of the national office."
Grossman said Tarsy provided "moral leadership" and surely would have invigorated a new generation of ADL members in New England if he had been given the chance. Hamparian said it spoke poorly of the ADL's national leadership that Tarsy "was not rewarded, but fired for speaking the truth." And James Rudolph, the ADL's regional board chairman and partner at a Boston law firm, said he would miss working with Tarsy.
"I'm disappointed," Rudolph said. "He was an extraordinary leader and I'm sure that a lot of people affiliated with the board and affiliated with the ADL share my disappointment."
Rudolph, like Foxman, said he is hoping to have further conversations with the national office in the days ahead regarding the differences between them.
But they will be doing it without Tarsy, who said that he has no idea what he will do next.
"I have the greatest respect for the ADL and for its staff and leadership," Tarsy said, referring to the people he has worked with in the regional office over the years. "And I want very badly to see the ADL do what's right on this issue." -- Printer friendly PDF file

For his next trick, Mr. Foxman will dress up like the Fuhrer and sing nationalistic German songs while denouncng the Holocaust to protect the J-ewish community in Germany.

And, then he'll shift back to recognizing the Holocaust but claim that it should not be recognized at the political level.

It's ok let Abe stay atop the ADL, don't can him, its like pin the tail on the esh. He's singlehandedly eroded any goodwill and historical credibility the American J-ewish lobby has had on genocide recognition and as the moral authority of America let alone American J-ews.

He certainly is not in tune with the community he claims to lead. And, we have had the privilege, the honor, the entertainment of watching him turn like the smarmy worm we all believed he was before this mess he brought upon himself by way of his self-righteousness.

In his own words condemning Mel Gibson http://www.adl.org/PresRele/ASUS_12/4861_12.htm:

Through his actions, he "finally reveals his true self." His shift acknowledging acts against Armenians "tantamount to genocide" is "unremorseful and insufficient". It is not a proper acknowledgment of the Armenian Genocide because it reveals his "bigotry" and Zionism.

His proclamations that he is a "tolerant" humanitarian "were a sham". The bigotry was passed on from Turkey to him. It is unfortunate that it took the Watertown beatdown and grief he caused genocide survivors and victims' relatives to "reveal what was really in his heart and mind".

"We would hope that the [American J-ewish community and Washington, D.C.] now would realize they have a bigot in their midst and that they will distance themselves from this [Zionist]."

              ================================================== ================================================== =======

He's duplicit in every way. Hate monger. Hypocrit. Liar. Defamer. Genocide denier. Xenophobe. Phony.

He's an embarrassment to the Shoah, himself and humanitarians around the world. His legacy is that of pariah defending the indefensible.

The ADL's position acknowledging acts against Armenians as "tantamount to genocide" is just "not good enough".

(From "Turkish Daily News:" Mehmet Ali Byrand, the author, believes that, considering the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the ADL and AJC, the resolution, in the US Congers, will pass despite the jurkish lobbying efforts. Samedi 25 août 2007

explains how Israel is conflicted over issue because it must suppress to coddle its relations with Turkey; points to Yad Vashem including Armenian genocide in its curriculum, Wiesenthal Center experiencing 'pains' in including presentational material re: Armenian Genocide in its museum; refers to "J-ewish nation" being primarily focused on promulgating lessons of the Holocaust for humanitarian purposes including the restraint of recurring genocide; says "never again" really meaningless slogan pointing to Rwanda and Darfur and Holocaust lessons not actually fully "internalized"; Israel cannot agree to Turkey overlooking its 'dark' days in its past; denouncing genocide does not defame present Turkey, but acknowledges that Turkey as a successor government must take responsibility and not duck it [think, post WWII Germany and that little deal between Gurion, Peres' mentor, and Germany re: reparations]; genocide is occurring right now in Darfur and is a global tragedy that no nation can claim ignorance about; includes anti-Iranian propaganda escalating to quoting others accusing Ahamdenijad of "genocidal criminality"; basically, uses recognition of past genocides as message that nations should galvanize to stop genocidial ambitions pre-gestation like taking out Ahmadenijad/Iran)

The ADL's recognition of the Armenian genocide raises questions on relations between Israel and Diaspora Jewish organizations
