Re: Watertown Armenians in arow over ADL's anti-genocide stance
Boston bulldog Boyajian takes a bite out of new ADL NE regional head for link to AIPAC; Boyadjian clarifies that you cannot truly recognize or acknowledge the genocide when you actively lobby for its non-recognition by parlimentary bodies and hire others who have links to other J-ewish organizations that also actively lobby against genocide recognition; Foxman's response in the
"comments" section immediately below the article is laughable.
Foxman cries that ADL is being unfairly demonized over Armenian genocide issue because the ADL has never denied the genocide and has already acknowledged the Armenian Genocide. http://home.wickedlocal.com/2008/08/...deny-genocide/
Another J-ewish publication republishes JTA news release concerning ADL's hiring of Shulman to take over for Tarsy. http://www.xxxishledger.com/articles...ews/news20.txt

Re: Watertown Armenians in arow over ADL's anti-genocide stance
The luster of ADL's NE presence is lost, ADL not only mired in controversy with Armenians in the region but have also incensed many area J-ews over the organizations failure to recognize the genocide for political reasons leaving some organizations reluctant and unwilling to include ADL in their efforts; Foxman complains that ADL is being unfairly 'demonized' over issue.

Shulman also director of AIPAC's NE branch office said to seek addressing AG issue head on and re-establish ties with communities, ADL claims to have shifted position again, Boyajian and other activists remain skeptical linking recent events to more shady Foxman shenanigans.

More news trickling out from local Massachussetts press and J-ewish press concerning ADL's hire of Shulman as its new head of its New England regional branch.

The Anti-Defamation League has a new regional leader in Needham’s Derrek Shulman, and it remains to be seen whether this will change how folks see the organization.
As for the controversy last year involving the national ADL’s position on the Armenian Genocide, Shulman directed such questions to Kappel. Last summer, the national director, Abraham Foxman, called the “consequences” of the World War I-era murder of 1.5 million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire “tantamount to genocide,” a position local Armenian-Americans felt fell short of full acknowledgement.

One Response to “New start for the ADL?”
Suzie on August 20th, 2008 9:55 am How does this change anything? Same nonsense different people. You can’t grow and change if you’re burdened and encumbered by a policy that directly contradicts the mission of your organization. Good luck to Mr. Shulman, but really, he’s already in a losing battle."

Re: Watertown Armenians in arow over ADL's anti-genocide stance
Needham and Newton local papers run articles about Watertown Town Council's recent inquiry into severing ties with Blue Cross over their association with ADL's NPFH program with correction that Watertown Town Council is seeking Blue Cross stop funding ADL programs.
"[Editor's note: In the original posting of this story, the first sentence was wrong. Town Council is asking only that Blue Cross stop funding ADL programs. Council is not threatening to drop Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage.]
People following the ADL issue with the Armenian Genocide might want to see this letter that was in the boston xxxish advocate paper:
Letters to the editor
-------------
ADL Has Burned Some Bridges
The Anti-Defamation League is asleep at the wheel on the Zakim Bridge. It has been nearly one year since the devastating collapse of the ADLs relationship with the Armenian community, and the ultimate demise of its No Place for Hate program.
In that time, ADL has failed to produce any sort of public relations campaign to repair its image, and the mortar of the organization only continues to crumble. The program that once flourished in our communities has been decimated, and the reputation of the organization obliterated.
The ADL continues to betray itself and its mission as it burns bridges with so many of Bostons countless other ethnic communities. Whether from the Armenians or the Muslims, ADL hides and clings to Abe Foxman, like a child to its mothers leg.
Throughout this past year, opportunities to make amends with the Armenian community were handed to the organization on a silver platter, yet each time the ADL stood idly by as the entirety of the xxxish community stepped forward to take their brothers and sisters hands.
As the ADL continually failed to recognize the Armenian genocide as such, they alienated so many of their allies. Elected officials at both local and state levels publicly divorced themselves and their communities from the organization. The effectiveness of their other programs diminished as their authenticity was called into question.
Can the ADL morally continue to preach about eradicating anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial? Can they teach others to break down barriers, while they still build them?
I call upon the leaders of the ADL to practice as they preach; to take action and stand up for what is right. One year later, I urge you to learn from your mistakes.

Foxman hangs new pinata in New England for Armenians to aim at; just kidding, ADL finally names Tarsy's replacement to serve as Foxman's lapdog er, er, er, director of ADL's New England regional branch. http://www.boston.com/news/local/bre...res_repla.html

Re: Watertown Armenians in arow over ADL's anti-genocide stance
Per the J-ewish sanctioned blogosphere, there are some in the American J-ewry that believe that American J-ewish organzations are jeopardizing the security of J-ews worldwide by taking the side of supporting the U.S. recognition of the Armenian genocide. http://www.J-ewishjournal.com/forums/viewthread/1577/
Apparently, recognizing the atrocities in Darfur as genocide or seeking to divest investments and aid from Sudan and Iran because of their sanctioning of alleged genocide or Holocaust denial are noble causes for the American J-ewry because it does not jeopardize the safety of J-ews worldwide.
Gee, I thought tikkun olam was about what was right not what was right only depending on potential consequences to tribe members.

Re: Watertown Armenians in arow over ADL's anti-genocide stance
Last year, the ADL in CT proselytized to Brideport gradeschool students while simultaneously going revisionist on historical fact re: Armenian genocide.
If you refuse to call the Holocaust, the Holocaust, does it make the 'events' any less of a crime?
