Exactly. He just couldn't be bothered to do the whole article! But what is the point of scanning the illustrations without also scanning the text. The missing illustration btw is a very poignant one showing a young survivor of the Van massacres (the same photo appears in an earlier NG article "Between Massacres in Van").

I was browsing the German ebay a few days ago, and got a 1918 German newspaper that (according to the sellers description anyway) has photos of the Turkish capture of Kars. Will see what it is like when it arrives.

Will see what it is like when it arrives.

You're welcome. I hope we can eventually have multilingual members here (with emphasis on Armenian, French, German, Russian, Turkish) so we can have translated posts and summaries of historial articles. Perhaps one day.

Will see what it is like when it arrives.

Wasn't quite as expected - what babelfish translated as "two pictures on two pages" should have been "one double-page illustration". It is not a photo, but is a reproduction of a painting of the fall of Kars, done by by a German, showing some captured and mostly injured Russian soldiers (or rather, soldiers in Russian uniforms) being led away by Turkish soldiers from a bombed out fortification, with Kars castle in the background.
It's too big for my scanner, but I'll take a photo of it when I can find where I've put all my memory cards!
There is also some text on another page, in unreadable German gothic script, that goes with it.
