According to this BBC-Persian article Mohammad Ali Jamal-zadeh was a "story teller" / reporter who used to live in Berlin. In 1915 he returns to Iran, but within about a year he decides to return to Germany. On the way back, he treks through Iraq where he has first hand exposure to Armenian death marches.
