Interestingly, US newspaper reports produced closer to the event wrote that Martha Reynolds died of wounds after being shot by Kurds when they attacked the refugees fleeing Van. In this book, it says she broke her leg when falling from a cart after escaping a Kurdish attack, and later died of this injury.
