ASSEMBLY THIS WEEK Monday, August 29, 2005

ROSS VARTIAN COMPLETES HIS WORK WITH THE ARMENIAN ASSEMBLY
Longtime Executive Director Ross Vartian has completed his second term
of service with the Armenian Assembly family.

Vartian, who assisted with the Assembly's transition period, served most
recently as Director of Communications and Leadership Development and
has returned to Michigan with his wife Judie. He has informed the
Assembly that he has been hired by the Cafesjian Family Foundation
    beginning in October 2005.

Hirair Hovnanian, Chairman of the Board of Trustees said, "We thank Ross
for his years of service to the Assembly family."

Board of Directors Chairman Anthony Barsamian, in a letter to Vartian,
wrote: "You and Judie have given much to the Armenian Assembly and we
wish you much success in your future endeavors."

    CONGRESSMAN MOORE JOINS ARMENIAN CAUCUS
The Assembly welcomed the news last week that Representative Dennis
Moore (D-KS) has officially joined the Congressional Caucus on Armenian
Issues, bringing the total to 146 members.

Moore is the second lawmaker from the Sunflower State to join the Caucus
due to the efforts of ARAMAC State Chair for Kansas Alex Kotoyantz.

"I am proud to be the latest member to join the Armenian Caucus, and to
participate as part of this bi-partisan group. It is my hope to
coordinate with the Caucus Co-Chairs and this diverse coalition to help
foster greater ties between the United States and Armenia," Congressman
    Moore said.

"The Assembly extends its thanks to Congressman Moore for joining the
Caucus and appreciates his expression of support for issues of
importance to the Armenian-American community," said Board of Directors
Chairman Anthony Barsamian. "We also commend Alex Kotoyantz, who once
again has demonstrated the power of grassroots advocacy."

Earlier this year, Kotoyantz worked with community activists to
encourage Governor Kathleen Sebelius to issue a proclamation formally
recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Previous to that, he helped secure
the "Kansas-Armenia Partnership Day" proclamation recognizing the
importance of the recently forged relationship between the Kansas
National Guard and Armenia within the framework of the State's
    Partnership Program.

ASSEMBLY LEADS DISTRICT MEETINGS IN COLORADO
The Armenian Assembly last week led community meetings with the offices
of five Colorado lawmakers, urging them to support Armenian-American
    issues.

On August 23, Western Office Director Lena Kaimian and Colorado ARAMAC
State Chair Pamela Barsam-Brown, along with Chair of Armenians of
Colorado Inc. Kim Christianian, Armenian Church of Colorado Deacon
Vahagn Sargsyan, Ken Allikian and Simon Magakyan, met with Congressman
Thomas Tancredo's (R-CO) staff. The Assembly group urged the
Congressman to support the Armenian Genocide resolution (H.R. 316), as
well as the House rail bill (H.R. 3361), which would prohibit U.S.
funding for a railroad connecting Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Also
that same day, Kaimian and Barsam-Brown met with Senator Wayne Allard's
(R-CO) district director to provide a general overview on U.S.-Armenia
    relations.

The following day, the Assembly delegation met with the staff of
Congressmen Bob Beauparez (R-CO) and Mark Udall (D-CO). Participants in
the meeting with Beauparez's office included: Ken Allikian, Pamela
Barsam-Brown, Armene Brown, Arous Christianian, Simon Magakyan, Anahid
Katchian and Lena Kaimian. Activist Armene Brown and Vi Bashian Cooper
joined Kaimian and Barsam-Brown for a meeting with Udall's staff in
which the group thanked the lawmaker for supporting the Armenian
Genocide resolution. On August 25, Kaimian and Barsam-Brown met with
the staff of newly-elected Congressman John Salazar (D-CO).

Kaimian thanked local activists, including Armenians of Colorado Inc.,
for participating in the meetings and commended them for securing state
recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Kaimian also gave a special
thanks to Pamela Barsam-Brown and her husband Stanley for hosting a
community gathering at their Boulder, CO home on August 23.

NOTE TO READERS: Assembly This Week will not be published on September 5
due to the Labor Day Holiday. Look for our next issue on September 12.
