Re: 2009-2010 : Official "Season of Turkish Culture" in France
These "re-enactment" Janissaries are also considered by the MHP to be a symbol of MHP ideology. I've seen a couple of these parades in provincial locations, and they were followed at the rear by groups of MHP supporters carrying their triple-crescent flags and making "grey wolf" gestures with their fists.

It was not a symbol to them, used as it is today, for the ultra-nationalists. It's use today is very clear in meaning.Originally posted by egeli View PostThe three crescent moons symbol is not exclusively a symbol for Turkish fascism, or for the MHP. If you ever go to a Mehter Janissary parade, the Janissaries will be holding the three crescent flag. Why would a historical parade by promoting a political party? Similarily, I doubt the three crescents are displayed in France to promote Turkish fascism.
The modern three crescents originated from Ottoman flags used in military conquests. Its contemporary use evokes nostalgic sentiment of an Imperial Turkish past that conquered in the name of Islam.
This is amusing to me, because Janissaries especially in their apex were of indigenous Christian origin. Rivalries between these new converts and Muslims of Islamic heritage were very common in the Ottoman court. While the Janissaries were Islamic conquerers, they definitely were not of Turkish origin. Infact, Janissaries deeply resented Anatolian Muslims and considered them of inferior genetic stock. They often called them "Turks", which before the 19th century was a derogatory reference to Anatolian peasants.
Turks today have a very poor understanding of Ottoman history, it is too biased by modern Turkish nationalism.

Here is the flag - http://www.travel-images.com/photo-turkey566.html "triple-crescent flag of the extreme right Nationalist Movement Party - Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi, MHP". On the French design, the crescents have been made fatter, and one has been turned in the opposite direction, but it is obviously the same symbol.Originally posted by CRDA-France View PostReally ? Re: 2009-2010 : Official "Season of Turkish Culture" in France
There are interesting cultural and artisitic events in this Official "Season of Turkey in France" : in musuems, etc. etc.
There has been a serie of conferences on Turkey. For 4 of them, there have been questions on the Armenian Genocide. You can see a French Armenian asking interesting questions in this videos listed page ( http://www.google.fr/language_tools?hl=en )
Best regards from Paris. Nil

Here is the website of the Season of Turkey in France : http://www.saisondelaturquie.fr/ http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en
It is being analyzed : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...0activites.htm
and we are preparing texts for targetted e-mails : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...e/textes00.htm
This Turkish Season (July 2009-March 2010) is the perfcect time for the coming Regional Elections in April 2010 : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...gionales00.htm
Already last june, there were European Elections and the debate on the Turkish candidateship to the EU was real. I think the French now understand how negative is this Turkish candidateship for Europe and France.
Now I am member of the Armenian Council of France : http://www.ccaf.info/
In France Armenians are very much motivated to counter this candidateship and to denounce the Turkish imposture. Already historically (1878-1923) it was the case and this historical-political capital can be used : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...lissements.htm
The Turkish State is putting an important budget for lobbying. It is our Armenian destiny to work hard and to inform the Europeans on Turkish reality.
In Europe, there are also more and more Muslims and that is why islam-christian dialogue is so important : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...slam/0home.htm telling that what happenned in 1915 was so against islam : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...lam/0_1915.htm

Re: 2009-2010 : Official "Season of Turkish Culture" in France
Last news regarding the situtation of a french family : not very good for the image of Turkey that is to say automatically not very good for the image of the Official "Season of Turkish Culture" in France :
Google's service, offered free of charge, instantly translates words, phrases, and web pages between English and over 100 other languages.
A father of four children arrested in Turkey on charge of "smuggling antiquities".
It is the same story which happenned to Mrs Gene LePere in 1983. This American lady was emprisonned in Turkey on the same charge of "smuggling antiquities". She escaped from her jail and succeeded to go home.
She published her story in 1988 : "Never Pass This Way Again" http://www.amazon.com/Never-Pass-Thi...owViewpoints=1
New York magazine was born in 1968 after a run as an insert of the New York Herald Tribune and quickly made a place for itself as the trusted resource for readers across the country. With award-winning writing and photography covering everything from politics and food to theater and fashion, the magazine's consistent mission has been to reflect back to its audience the energy and excitement of the city itself, while celebrating New York as both a place and an idea.

A film was made called "DARK HOLIDAY : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097157/
The same thing is happenning to this father of four children living in north of France, in the small town of Chocques near Béthune. His wife is French but he is not, being still citizen of Mauritius. Mr Domanick Murugan is still in prison and the French consulate cannot help him. He is not French. His wife tells that she sends him money to buy soap, toilette paper, etc... and it is not enough.
This touristic vacation has been prolonged in prison for more than 3 months. Mr Murugan is going to be on trial end of August. He may be emprisonned for 10 years : http://www.google.fr/search?hl=fr&q=...meta=&aq=f&oq=
To be continued. Nil
