Drug War Politics by Eva Bertram. Never finished reading it in my Political Science class this past semester but I'm really enjoying it.

While searching for your book on the net I found this bookstore in Constantinople. They have interesting old Armenian books ... some are from the 1800s. select the 123ABC on top and see the collections.

Re: What Are You Currently Reading?

Some of the advantages of talking about a book that we are currently reading are: The memory is fresh, more accurate; it, usually, better corresponds to where we are mentally etc. etc. Unfortunately, nowadays, I have no time to read anything besides technical, work related books - that I would not consider as "reading" i.e. evasion, discovery, journey etc.; so I will "cheat," and limit myself to recalling books from my past, books that I have particularly enjoyed, books that I may revisit, books that had an impression that survived the erosion of time, books that recurrently resurface my mind

I will start with Tanizaki's In Praise of Shadows
In Praise of Shadows (陰翳礼讃 , In'ei Raisan?) is...a short book on aesthetics by the Japanese author Jun'ichirō Tanizaki. First published in 1933, the essay consists of sixteen sections that discuss traditional Japanese aesthetics. Comparisons to light and darkness are used to contrast Western and Asian cultures; while the West, in its striving for progress, is presented as continuously searching for light and clarity, the subtle and subdued forms of oriental art and literature are seen by Tanizaki as an appreciation of shadow.

In Praise of Shadows is a small poetic book that resonates with a texture, imagery and poignancy of a time past...He [Tanizaki] speaks fondly of the beauty, depth and resonance of shadows, specifically how Japanese designers work with darkness to create objects that reflect limited light. He talks of bright light garishly subjugating the delicate subtlety of Japanese design - the lacquer bowl, miso soup, paper paneled shoji. He suggests light robs us of the beauty of shadows, the mysterious depths and heavy patterns, the ageless unknown. Drawing comfort and familiarity of being one with a shadow, nestling into it, he laments his fellow citizens eager adoption of westernised technologies that leapfrogged Japanese design process.

What if I find someone else when looking for you? My soul shivers as the idea invades my mind.
