  • Arto Tuncboyaciyan - Le Voyage En Armenie

I thought I would post my thoughts on this album here after giving it many many listens. I would call this pop music, but not in a demeaning way at all, an certainly not what you've heard from Armenian pop music. This album is original, there are more than a few songs that push Armenian music forward, which is really refreshing to hear in this day with our music being mixed with hip hop and all the rest of that crap. Also unlike "classical" albums this one is really easy to get into. There is at least one track that uses electronic instruments, not sampled, original, well suited. The album is also very well structured, with a healthy mix of songs/vocals into instrumental parts.

I am really happy to see an album such as this, pushing Armenian music forward. We need more artists who strive to seek originality within our music whilst not fearing to use innovative techniques such as electronic instruments. To just mix hip hop/techno/trance into Armenian music is one thing, to manufacture a desired sound to use along side [or to make sound similar to] our familiar instruments is another. IMO It is essential in maintaining our culture, keep our music from getting stagnant and not letting it get lost within others.

I would have uploaded a few tracks, but I think this album really needs to be heard in its entirety to be appreciated (I can't stop listening to it). Find it, listen to it, and buy it to support the artist.

Arto Tunçboyacıyan's brother Onno Tunç(he went by this name) is one of the greatest names of Turkish pop music. He worked with almost every decent Turkish pop music artist.

An album was dedicated for him on the 10th anniversary of his passing away.
