Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

    Re: Blu-Ray

I've been researching Blu-Ray for quite sometime now.

It's really hard to tell what's going to happen in the future for Blu-Ray. Luckily, the studios went with Blu-Ray and its main competitor, HD-DVD, lost the battle. It seems a lot of companies are really backing Blu-Ray and with HDTVs getting so popular, it's becoming almost a necessity. People are building home theatres and the quality of the picture is what they're looking for to complete the feel.

However, I don't think Blu-Ray will replace DVDs in anyway. DVD is still very popular and I think the two can coexist in the future. DVD knocked away VHS but that was really a whole new format of watching films. The concept is the same with Blu-Ray and DVD, so until something different comes through, DVD will remain in the highest position.

I collect films and it took me a while to debate if I should switch over to Blu-Ray. I do have a HDTV and I think the picture is incredibly crisp but I don't think I will make the transition. Some films will never even exist in Blu-Ray; I really can't see Criterion Collection distributing Blu-Ray copies of The Bicycle Thief. I like the look of DVDs, I mean, I don't want to step away from the classic cinema look. Anytime we get closer to digital, we're killing film off for good and that's the worst thing we can do.

It's predicted Blu-Ray has another ten years. It's only a matter of time until 4k hits the market and changes the look again.

Blu-Ray owns but i don't get it. Instead of buying just blu-ray for $500-600 why not just buy a ps3 for 400 and enjoy both the gaming experience and blu-ray

Some people don't need/want a PS3. They just want a standalone player sitting in their room instead of a PS3.

I know many people who have done that even though they barely play PS3 and it's what I would do as well, if i'd ever want to buy that.

            Re: Blu-Ray

I think Blue-Ray is already obsolete. I stopped using DVDs about 4 years ago (except for data backup) and have no plans to buy any sort of blue-ray device (unless it comes with something that I was going to buy anyway like a laptop, ps3, toaster or whatever).

I doubt blue-ray is going to replace DVDs much like DVD's haven't really replaced CDs. I stopped using CDs more than 10 years ago and most people have pretty much stopped using CDs these days. I think the same will happen with DVD/Blue-Ray media in the coming decade. DVD's will stick around for a while as the legacy video format while blue-ray will temporarily serve as the high-end media format until people migrate to higher and higher bandwidth connections with larger and larger local random-access storage on their media playback devices.

Much like all other electronics (with the exception of video game systems that are heavily discounted to get people to buy the games later), blue-ray players are quickly dropping in price compared to their initial price-points. I think you can get them for less than $200 pretty easily these days and a lot of times they just give them away with buying new high-end tv's. The prices will continue to drop for the basic players while I doubt they will drop much more on the PS3's any time soon (never know for sure).

                  Re: Blu-Ray

After thinking about this long and hard and doing some much more extensive research, I think I may switch over to Blu-ray.

We were planning on moving and if we end up moving soon enough, that will make me switch over without really thinking twice. One of the reasons is because I will build a home theatre in one of the rooms. This will allow Blu-ray films to live up to its hype; with an HD projector and surround sound.

With Criterion supporting Blu-ray, it's evident Blu-ray is going to take over eventually. The scary thing is RED is already pushing the bar with not only an affordable 3k camera, but EPIC 617, a camera that shoots 28k!

I think Blu-ray will go strong for at least 10 years, but given 4k TV's are made affordable by big companies like Sony, that's going to replace Blu-ray. I'm already dying to see 4k resolution in its entirety and thinking about that makes me less excited for Blu-ray's 1080p.

                    Re: Blu-Ray

I think pretty much all Blu-ray players are dvd compatible so it's not really a "switch". It's like an add-on.

An HD-projector sounds great though! Should be pretty exciting setting up a home theater!!!
