Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

I am. Although I love heavy metal music, back when I was growing up (1980s ) I only appreciated a few heavy metal bands; Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, Queensryche, Deep Purple. The vast majority of the metal bands at the time Motley Crew, Ratt, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Kiss, etc., were too flashy, too commercial, too superficial for my taste.

My absolute favorite heavy metal band, the band I essentially grew up with was the legendary -

Excellent taste, jgk3. I really enjoy all the major classical composers. I also love early European music. But I adore adore Bach and Mozart. Bach's brilliant creations are timeless. Constructed like a fine machine, his compositions are layered, superbly structured and aristocratic in flavor. And Mozart's, an absolute genius!!! His compositions are a colorful bouquet where regal meets exotic in a flirtatious and lavish manner. However, if I had to pick 'one' aria, one song, as my all time favorite it would undoubtedly be Mozart's Der Hölle Rache (Queen of the Night - Zauberflöte). It is perhaps the most exhilarating, most dramatic, most thrilling, most complex, most difficult to sing aria ever created.

Every time I hear it, every time I see it, this masterpiece leaves a great impression upon me. Simply put, it's outstanding.

Even if you don't know the German language you may want to pay this guy a tribute because he has literally smashed the head of the head of Turkish Young Grey Wolfes in Berlin purely because he hates the Turks and their attitude. And Turks hate him too, big time. They burned his effigy in Berlin and swore revenge, some say even hired hitmen to kill him. It takes a huge amount of courage to challenge and beat the Turks in Berlin. He did it. God bless his heart. But besides his courage I really like his music too. His rap is truthful and mirrors the reality.

wow, I've never seen such an incredible performance in an opera before, I've never really looked much into the genre, I was simply dumbfounded when I saw Diana Dumrau sing those notes... especially the ones that were instrumental, I could not believe it, I had never known a voice could sing like an instrument that way!

In general, I am not familiar with Mozart's works, but someday I will explore them too. I am deeply moved by Bach and Beethoven, they are my two favorites right now, even though I probably haven't heard as many of their works as a more seasoned listener of classical music does. But I really feel like Bach was able to reach the heavens and the fabric of our universe with his layers of voices, it is almost a religious experience to listen to his most expressive works. Beethoven on the other hand is quite the opposite of a man who could connect to the rest of the world, let alone the universe as we experience it. He had a very introspective expression, his music was based on the intensity of his life, combining both the serene moments he experienced, like those during his solitary walks in nature, and the dramatic disappointments, fury and frustrations that were to give him his aura of a serious and pained individual.

                Samson & Delilah

                Lyrics: Traditional
                Music: Traditional

Sung regularly by Bob Weir with the Grateful Dead from the mid-1970s onwards. He varied the lyrics a little: the main differences are noted below.

                If I had my way
I would tear this whole building down

Delilah was a woman, she was fine and fair
She had good looks - God knows - and coal black hair
Delilah she gained old Samson's mind
When first he saw this woman, she looked so fine

Delilah she climbed up on Samson's knee
Said tell me where your strength lies, if you please
Then she spoke so kind, she talked so fair
That Samson said, Delilah you cut off my hair
You can shave my head, clean as my hand
My strength become as natural as any old man

                Chorus
                If I had my way
                If I had my way
                If I had my way
I would tear this whole building down

You read about Samson, all from his birth (note 4)
He was the strongest man ever has lived on earth
One day while Samson was walking along
Looked down on the ground he saw an old jaw bone
Then he stretched out his arm and his chains broke like threads
And when he got to move, ten thousand was dead

                [chorus]

Now Samson and the lion, they got in attack
And Samson he crawled up on the lion's back
You read about this lion, he killed a man with his paws
Samson got hands up round the lion's jaws
He ripped that beast, killed him dead
And the bees made honey in the lion's head

                [chorus]
                [chorus]
I would tear this whole building down
                Between childhood, boyhood,

When I awoke, the Dire Wolf
                    Six hundred pounds of sin
                    Was grinnin at my window
All I said was "come on in"

                    Don't murder me

The wolf came in, I got my cards
We sat down for a game
I cut my deck to the Queen of Spades
but the cards were all the same

                    In the backwash of Fennario
                    The black and bloody mire
The Dire Wolf collects his due
while the boys sing round the fire

Your "passion" - maybe not the most accurate word??? - for Grateful Dead made me wonder if I should listen to more of their work - I don't know them that well. What would be your top picks in this "Grateful Dead" torrents? Thanks!

P.S. If it helps, from the bands/musicians mentioned in your posts, I enjoy Bauhaus, The Psychedlic Furs, The Doors, and to some degree/some of Frank Zappa.
In any case, I appreciate (almost???) anything of "quality."

P.S.S. Also, though I enjoy being in a concert, I prefer studio recordings - with few exceptions - when listening to music.

What if I find someone else when looking for you? My soul shivers as the idea invades my mind.
