"I had the occasion to follow the career of artist Nuné Asatryan, observing show after show, the growth of her personality and her uniqueness. It was clear that her artistic gift was a true professional vocation. She never limited herself by creating merely art forms: she went beyond the texture of her paintings to communicate to us a conceptual message."

I remember meeting Nuné during one of her solo exhibitions in Miami. She was still devastated after losing several of her paintings (they were stolen several years before). Following her exhibition we went to have dinner at a local Russian restaurant -- Miami having a considerably large Russian community. As I had my borscht, she began to cry. She said that every time she returns to the United States she remembers her paintings being stolen. I said "Forget it Nunechka, it's America," and she smiled. To comfort her some more I began to talk about twentieth century art, expressing my distaste for Picasso and the Cubist movement in general. However, we both agreed that Henri Matisse was one of the greatest artists of the said century. When we received the bill, she looked up at me, probably to see if I had her covered. I smiled at her and said, "Forget it, Nunechka, it's America," and took out my credit card.

I think this represents mankind's shell or barrier that they put up towards those that are different and the life long struggle to break their own shell and realize that in the end, the world is connected and we are all dependent on each other.

Or she might have just been high when creating this....
