The acclaimed, Orange Prize-winning novel by Lionel Shriver has been adapted into a film by the Scottish film director Lynne Ramsay (Morvern Callar). It is premiering In Competition this week at the Cannes Film Festival. The novel is told from the perspective of Eva Katchadourian, an Armenian-American mother whose son has committed a school massacre. Apparently, Eva's Armenian heritage comes up quite a bit in the source material, though I wouldn't be surprised if they omitted any mention of it in the film since the author has already received angry letters from Armenian readers. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Eva is being played by the extraordinary and astonishing Scottish actress Tilda Swinton. The boy playing Kevin looks like he could be half-Armenian (like the character in the novel).
