The Adventures of Tintin

Since the film has already premiered in Europe (U.S. has to wait until December), I thought I'd start a thread.

I remember reading the comics (still own a couple of them) and watching the animated series on Nickelodeon in the 1990s. I recently re-watched the very first episode ("The Crab with the Golden Claws") and Tintin's first clue is a piece of paper with the word Karaboudjan written on it, which Tintin assumes is an Armenian name! Intéressant, non?

Not for me. Anything directed by Steven Spielberg is an absolute no-no for me. And the expected typical blandiose "music" by John Williams just adds the final nail into its coffin. (Why isn't Williams dead yet - I'd have though his music would have bored him to death years ago?)

I remember having some of the books as a child - don't know what happened to them. I do remember not knowing quite what to make of them, they were neither British or American in drawing style or narration or content. But I'd prefer the memory of my not knowing what to make of them to seeing Spielberg's heavy-handed knowing what to make of them.

Nevermind Spielberg -- the film was co-written by Steven Moffat (the man behind the very best installments of the Doctor Who and Sherlock revival series).

He (and David Tennant) should have been knighted already.

Anyway, Tintin has debuted in first place in Belgium, France and the UK. I love how Entertainment Weekly describes it as "Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin."

Well, this is his production of the film.

The book was known as Stephen King's The Shining, but the film became known as Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.

I completely understand what you're saying, but it's a different medium it's been adapted to now and it's now his interpretation of the material.
