now although musical preferences are very subjective, we have to take into consideration a musician's musicality: how much "music" does this person emit? now not everybody loves beethoven, but anybody with a brain would agree that the dude was a f*ckin ridiculous genius, prodigy, and there will never ever be another one like him. he wrote like half his works after going deaf, like what the fcuk...
these days we must come to a realization that musical greatness and recognition for musical greatness are 2 things that do NOT go hand in hand. the reason being that the general public's idea of musical greatness, always channelled & filtered thru media, is physical hotness, breast size, shocking lyrics and so on & so forth..... if somebody possesses all of the listed qualities, they are considered a maker of great music. meanwhile, herbie h a n c o c k is doing infomercials on TV... herbie, who played with the great miles davis quintet in the 1960s, a group which completely revolutionized modern music literally five or six times over... herbie, who had a more profound understanding of music at the age of 9 than EVERYBODY who stepped foot on the stage at the grammys this year COMBINED & that is NOT an exaggeration. (except for chick corea, of course)
however, returning to the subject of Beyoncé Knowles. speaking of technical mastery of one's instrument, she's got one HAPPENING set of vocal cords & that is not arguable. you may not like her songs, its not exactly the kind of stuff i listen to either, out of a number in the thousands of songs in my mp3 list, i have only one of hers. but there is no question that she is technically one of the strongest singers in pop music today. i dont know who she was nominated against, but i cant think of anybody right now who comes close to her singing. im glad that people like her & outkast are getting recognition because they actually make music. neither one of them are really what i listen to so much, but i'd much rather them than the whole gangsta rap bullsh*t that was famous not long ago & is thankfully making its way out of mainstream music... im sure im not the only one hoping for 50cent to get shot a 10th time.. maybe that one will be the lucky winner that will put us all out of our misery...
