We watched Citizen Kane today. Orson Welles did an amazing job with his techniques throughout the film, such as the tracking shot in the beginning of the film and his use of lighting. He's a great actor - so powerful - and you can tell, in this film. Should have one Best Picture but at least it took Best Screenplay. I loved it. 10/10
I didn't realize this wasn't the original thread of rating films. I miss that one, it's a lot bigger.
Anyway, I actually watched a film right after Citizen Kane yesterday, Criminal with John C. Reilly. I came across it and it looked very interesting with all the "crimes" they pulled off so I kept watching. It sure did get better but the ending was a little disappointment. It felt like the writers couldn't come up with a better one so they threw everything together. Not much of a twist because it's too much of a twist, if that makes any sense. I give it a 8/10. It was a fun film to watch, I recommend.
More black and white movies:
All three movies deal, in different ways, with truth, lies, facts, perceptions, deception...and how the boundaries are fuzzy and illusive, how it's anything but black and white.
I watched Roman Holiday the other night but forgot to rate it. It was a good film, Hepburn won an Oscar for her performance, I'd say it was well worth it. I think Peck did an amazing job as well. It was a fun film but I'm starting to like Hepburn more and more. I haven't seen many of her films but from what I have seen, she's great. 8/10
