The Fortune Cookie
I've been watching a ton of Billy Wilder and Jack Lemmon films lately. I was definitely interested in this particular film, considering it was the first collaboration between Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.
The film's premise is quite simple and you don't need much of a story to get some laughs out of Lemmon and Matthau. The screenplay is, at times, brilliant and during its gaps, the music is quite beautiful. Judi West gives a great performance as well; however, Walter Matthau is clearly the driving force in this comedy.
Revolutionary Road (Second Viewing)
To my surprise, I enjoyed the film much more during the second time around. I could see why certain scenes played the way they did, and enjoyed the "flow" of the story. I appreciated the performances much more and the screenplay as well.
Although I still think the script needed an extra draft, the film is much better on the second viewing. The structure wasn't much of a problem because I knew what to expect. I was able to better analyze the film and symphatize with the characters, which is ultimately what Sam Mendes set out to do.

I didn't see it, pal. I have to finish my own work so I may end up seeing it next weekend as well.
Are you seeing it in Pasadena or Hollywood?

Ghost World (2001) - 8/10
Based on the comic book series by the same name, directed by Terry Zwigoff and starring Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson and Steve Buscemi of Airheads's fame, this movie chronicles the life of two teenage girls who have just graduated high school and their chance meeting of a middle-aged blues record collector.
This movie is many things at once, and not in a bad way. It explores what it means to be "free" of the constraints of high school and the development of relationships after that. It explores the unconvievable relationship between an 18-year old girl and a middle-aged man. Loneliness and depression and how the two main characters deal with it is also a big theme. This film was almost in the style of Requiem for A Dream and even Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and for that was extremely enjoyable. The ending is not what we expect or even want, so be forewarned.
The only qualm I have about this movie is that it should have been longer.

Pepsi, how about you post your opinion on the film instead of giving a summary?
By the way, I don't quite think the marriage took a turn for the worst when DiCaprio cheated. If anything, it helped him mature as a man and respect his marriage much more.

Revolutinary Road
A married couple living an exciting life takes a turn for the worst, when the Husband (DiCaprio) cheats on his wife with the secreatry & the wife cheats on him with his best friend. One night the married couple get drunk & make love & the wife (Winslet) gets pregenant. She ends up giving herself an abortion which ends up being fatal.
3/5
