  • Looking for an Armenian shvi

    Hello everybody,

I don't know if anybody here can help me. I live in Montreal, Canada & this sort of instrument (shvi) is extremely rare to come by around here, but I'm sure there are tons of them in California, so my question is directed mainly to California residents. (Although if you live elsewhere & can help me, I would appreciate it)

I'm going to be in Los Angeles on the weekend of May 9th for a gig & so that would be an opportunity to pick one up while I'm there, but I need to know where to look.

If you know of any music stores that carry traditional Armenian instruments, let me know (store name, website, email address, tel #, street address, whatever u can come up with...)

    Thank you,

    Arden

How about going to this website and ordering one?

    This is the main site:

    Armenian Musical Instruments
    Phone (626) 577-0809

"Shvis of the most well known shvi maker, Master Rouben Rushanyan, who signs his work with the initials "RR", are sold there. His shvis are known for their crisp, clear, and precise tonal quality and are used by all the top shvi players in Armenia."

You can pay with a credit card and they ship it to you. (They ship to Canada too.)

Or if you want to go down there and pick it up, here is the address:

    2696 East Colorado Blvd.
    Pasadena, CA 91107

Give them a call before going there and they will have what you want all ready

I would say definitely talk to Movses over at the other forum as he knows this stuff better than anyone else I know (that duduk.com website is his) ... I am sure he will be able to hook you up and if not, he'll probably be able to help you out to answer your questions. He is a VERY friendly guy by the way.
        this post = teh win.
