Candle Box? Quensryche? STP?? Winger??? That's fine if you like them and all, certainly not going to argue with your right to do so. But for the love of music, don't call them legends!!
Anyways, moving on.....
I'm the direct opposite with Tool. I've liked them more and more with each album as the construction of the music has become more and more complex. I can't wait for the next one to come out (which they're working on now). Danny (possibly the greatest drummer of all time) said that this may be his favorite because of the direction the drumming is going to go. Something about being influenced by what they heard from Meshugga. I'm not a fan of Meshugga's music over all, but we'll see how this goes. I wrote an annalysis of why I like Tool even more now, but it was rather lengthy, and didn't have a place in this thread, so I'm making a separate one for it.
As for Crimson, in spite of popular belief, I didn't name myself after them (sorry, I just got up. Lame jokes are to be expected). I have to admitt, I hadn't heard of them until I discovered they were opening for Tool a few years back. Did some heavy looking into of their music. I just couldn't get into their style what-so-ever. Not saying they're not talented, just not my style.
I used to be a HUGE Guns N' Roses fan. Had all their demo tapes, live performances, etc. This was before the big Napster era, so getting things like that was MUCH, MUCH harder, and anyone with such material was considered a god. That's another band that I felt got better when people thought they got worse. Estranged is possibly their best orchestrated song, except for possibly Coma. I've heard a lot of their newer material which, if they ever release it, isn't half bad. Beats what's being put out there now.
I agree that most modern music is just simpleton, meaningless, non artistic CRAP! The music world revolves around image projection and "something to bob your head to" tunes. I just don't see music that requires thought or art coming back into the spotlight. The masses are too far gone into the "don't make me think, I want everything easy" mentallity, so I'm afraid that quality music may permanently be burried (at least, as far as mainstream music goes).
With that, here is my current list of favorite artists (not necessarily legends):
Tool (d'uh!)
Kyuss (another band that Tool turned me onto, which I like some of)
Rush (definitely has an early Tool-like sound)
Jethro Tull (just plain beautiful music)
Pink Floyd (have gotten a LOT more into them in recent years)
Alice in Chains (at least, their earlier stuff)
Metallica (the REALLY older stuff)
Radiohead (one of the few newer bands I can somewhat get into)
A Perfect Circle (well...this last album was a MAJOR disappointment)
Tori Amos (heh heh...heh heh... )
Sarah McLachlan (ok, SHUT UP!)
Ummm...yeah. So there you have it. Let the tearing apart begin!
Anyways, moving on.....
