I have been reading a lot of your posts since I am a student at UCLA as well and you do not know your "rap" as well as many other things, it is all just a little too one-sided. I read your thread on abortion and etc, sweeheart give it a rest.
When the World Wide Web was born, things were quite simple. The internet supported just one device (the PC) and the browsers available were too primitive for me.

Are you talking on the commercial appeal level, mixtape/underground/street level, or now but in general?

If you're talking about right now but in general....

          Here's my top 5:

          1) Nas
          2) Crooked I
          3) Rass Kass
          4) Eastwood
          5) Sly Boogie

            Right now overall.

            1) Ice Cube
            2) Kurrupt
            3) Sly Boogie
            4) Nas

Can't really think of a fifth even though Canibus would be up there as well.

Overall top 5 ever. I think only Cube would crack the top 10.

Depends what people are into. I see you got the same taste, semi-underground hiphop.

I agree with Nas too, from illmatic to god's son...he kept it cosistent with every album, as far as lyrics go.

I agree with the rest of your picks, but don't sleep on Canibus though, his lyrical concept is real complex. Guy is underrated. And who the hell is Crooked I? Is he worth listning to?

Well right now I'm feelin' the new track from The Roots called Don't Say Nothin'

Other then that, commercial rap today is pretty much dry.

I agree with you 100% that commercial rap is dry. That's why I've gone the semi-underground route. There's far better talent there.

Who the hell is Crooked I ?!

He's the best the westcoast has to offer now.

If you want to get an idea of how he raps check this video out:

Crooked I - On the Power 106 Wake Up Show

Right click and select save target as and save it to your desktop or something.

Pay special attention to his lyrics. He's a genius when it comes to forming lyrics. He takes freestyling and Hip Hop to a WHOLE OTHER level. That's why Suge Knight said that he's the best the westcoast has to offer when he was in Deathrow.

No doubt...guy got skills and on top of that has some crazy freestyles. I don't know why I never heard of him before...

I still think Mad Skillz has the best freestyles though...

and if you've never heard of Canibus...then you better get a couple of tracks from him right now...if you want lyrics then thats your guy.
