Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Sadly, I can only play a recorder and the harmonica. For those of you who do not know what it is...and please no sarcasim on that note, there are a few individuals who I have met that dont know what a recorder is. But I am pretty sure everyone here knows what it is.

Oh wow, I always loved the piano.

What type of music did your teacher have you play?

      Do you still play it?

Yes. I still play the piano but mostly for fun, and not really serious practise anymore.

I got to play mostly classical pieces, but also other kinds of music.

nowadays im stuck in armenian folkclore and schumann, as ive stoped going to my piano teacher.
thats the only thing i play, and frankly these shalakhos are starting to make me feel really crazy.

nice playing stud!! the energy & drive in ur playing is apparent despite the sketchy quality of the recording. i like the polyrhythm u play at 0:12-13. i dont know if u realize technically what that is, but its pretty cool

i started playing keys around 11 & took 7 years of classical piano lessons starting at 12. i started exploring on my brother's guitar around the same time, but never took lessons. in high school, i played recorder, flute & alto sax, but unfortunately havent touched either one since. (except the recorder when im wasted... lol) i started playing bass at 13 & played it in a rock band for a few years, until i switched to guitar in the band. by this time, i had learned quite a bit about the guitar.

i finished HS & went on to study music in CEGEP. (diff school system in quebec) there, i majored in classical piano the first semester because i knew nothing of jazz, but switched into jazz after. this is around the same time i joined a serious armenian band as a guitarist, so i started taking it more seriously even tho it wasnt my principal instrument. in my 3rd year of cegep, i was finally able to get some second instrument electric guitar lessons, after 6 years of a self-teaching. those lessons cleaned up a lot of technical problems that kept me from progressing & they helped me start seeing the guitar in a diff way, kinda more like the way i see the piano, interestingly enough. since then, ive been seriously infected by the jazz virus & through it, have explored funk, latin, r&b, fusion... now, im majoring in jazz performance at l'Université de Montréal, on piano.

i picked up a duduk a coupla years ago & can make some noise on that, however painful.. lol

as of now, i still play guitar in the armenian band, 4 yrs later. i also play keys in a new soul/r&b band called Tiffany & The SoulSektion. (https://www.djparanoid.ca/www.barcod...ons.ca/tiffany) i recently joined Senzafine, on keys as well. they are a pretty heavy progressive rock band. the Montreal Mirror voted them #5 best band & #3 heaviest last year. they have a website (www.senzafine.net) but it needs to be updated. all this plus the various opportunities i get to play jazz with many very talented dudes (& dudettes) around town. & the very latest: the drummer in my armenian band & i are starting a band of great rock covers. a bar band!! hehe ac/dc, van halen, kiss, steppenwolf!! hehehe

oh ya, & a few years ago, some family friends gave me an accordion to mess around with. it was their son's & was sitting in the closet for maybe 10 years. im still trying to find my way around that thing (particularly the left hand side, with the bass & chord buttons) & i cant afford to spend much time with it when theres all that other stuff to do, & shoes to fill... hehehe

i tried attaching a clip to the post, but 'file too large'.... ill try to figure how to make it work & next time... meanwhile, yea, thats my story..

As far as the quality, I had to reduce it in order to attach a 50 sec sample to my post.

            The polyrythm thing
Yea that came kinda naturally, I wasn't intending it. I mean, obviously you have to listen to the music and figure out how to react at certain spots, but sometimes the music drives me and my heart just does what it feels best. So I kept mimicing the polyrythm in the following breaks of the beat.

its really hard to start late. because a lot of what it takes to be a strong pianist is a lot of repetitive practice & thats hard to do when ure older.. i guess mostly because "if u practice ur scales, then u can go play outside" doesnt work anymore! lol

i started late too... i was about 11 when i started, which is considered late. im glad i never stopped playing, instead i just kept playing more & more!! hehe but on the other hand, there are a lot of fundamental technical things that i wish i had worked on more when i was younger so i wouldnt have to worry about htem so much now...
