ZULAL Armenian A Cappella Folk Trio
In less than two years, Zulal has developed a solid performance record including a coast-to-coast U.S. tour, an audition for Cirque de Soleil and a nomination for "Best Folk/World Song" at the 2004 Annual Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards.
'Zulal', meaning 'clarity', is an Armenian a cappella trio comprised of three Armenian women: Teni Apelian, Yeraz Markarian, and Anais Tekerian. Their original arrangements pay tribute to Armenia's folk roots while forging imaginative harmonies that add a fresh energy to traditional repertoire. Keeping to the folk tradition, Zulal writes its arrangements in an organic style, using the simplicity of voice to capture the heart of Armenia's rural music. Their repertoire is marked by the sounds of longing, celebration, struggle, desire, and reverie.
This enhanced CD includes: performance video, weblinks, English translations of songs, and 12 audio tracks.
