Armenian Music, Guys/Girls

I've just recently started buying Armenian CDs and they just happened to mostly be female artists. However, is there some cultural thing that men listen to other male artists and women listen to other female artists? Because my friend (a non-armenian who has a lot of Armenian friends) said that he hears his Armenian friends play Armenian music in their cars all the time, but this is the first time he's ever heard it be a female singer. I just don't want to be ridiculed for driving down Brand boulevard blasting Nune or anything, lol.

Dude... listen to whoever you want to listen to. There isn't any cultural thing. But when and if you bump it.....make sure its worth it and its not some old Armenian tune from the 1920s or something to that aspect.

I generally listen to anything from Jhoghovoortagan to Rabiz... as long as the beats, music, melody, singin and words are good, thats all that matters.

Well if you think about it, here in America both guys and girls listen to any genre, except one that they are very divided on... pop music. That's something pretty much only girls listen to.. you'd be hard pressed to find a guy driving down the street bumping Justin Timberlake's "Seniorita" or Hillary Duff's "So Yesterday"... it just doesn't happen. However, from what I can tell, more mainstream armenian music IS pop music. You don't really have mainstream Armenians Rock or Rap (I prefer it this way actually), more or less all Armenian songs are about dancing/being in love.. which is pop music, so it's not easy to differentuate.

I know some people might say I'm worrying about it to much, but I really don't wanna be driving around Glendale blasting what all the armos hanging around Starbucks consider the Armenian Britney Spears.

And for those of you wondering, yes, it does bother me to come off as if I'm learning how to be an Armenian all over again, lol. You know if I was raised with this xxxx it would just come naturally.. xxxxing parents... *goes off to kill them*

Which brings us to the million dollar question. Why would you be thinking about driving 1) in glendale, 2) by a Starbucks, 3) bumping Armenian music? You can be Armenian and still keep your self-respect.
