- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling

- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

  • Seeking Dedicated Armenian Musicians for Extreme Metal Band

I'm looking for motivated, reliable, and dedicated musicians interested in playing Metal influenced by Armenian and various European Folk music. The core of the project is deeply influenced by Melodic/Black/Death/Melodic metal genres of EUROPE...that means no American hardcore or other crapcore bands or nu metal crap including bands like Metallica, Slipknot, Linkin Park, System of a Down, etc. There really arn't many Armenians that are into the underground metal genres, and for the ones that are, they completely ignore the unique qualities they can bring to music with their Armenian roots.

Blending underground metal genres with Armenian elements though may not be a commercial success and I have no desire in making a career out of music, it surely could be something new and interesting for the Armenian people musically.

I believe blending Armenian melodies and maybe even some singing with the mentioned metal subgenres has a great potential that no one has acted upon.

Here is a sample of one of my solo music demos which displays the core of the music, not too influenced by Armenian melodies though and it isnt too fancy, the production of the recording aint the greatest, I did everything with my personal computer in my room but check it out to get an idea.

Andre C. Avanessian - From The Seas

If you think you want to join me in this quest or know someone that may be interested, the following is what im looking for:

    - Self Motivated, Dedicated Armenian Metalhead thats a Musician (no flakes)
    - Intermediate experience as a musician, dont need to be professional just be comfortable with playing your instrument
    - Drug free (alcohol is ok occasionally) individual
    - Located in Southern California
    - Have your own equipment, practice area would be a plus too
    - Be intelligent and responsible, no stupid people

thats all I can think of at the moment, If you're looking to creat yet another Metallica copycat band or a System copycat band, this isn't for you. Theres too many Armenians playing that kind of music, this project is not trendy or commercial. The idea is to use your own musical creativity to make something new.

A little about me: I'm a 2nd yr college student of Economics, in my free time I run the largest website dedicated to Folk Influenced metal, www.trolleve.com and I also work on my solo music work, since I have thus far not found any suitable people dedicated to playing music of this style.

I know I probably wont find anyone here, but I have to try, afterall this is the biggest online Armenian community, and many people from southern california are here, since the band should consist of soley Armenians, there really arnt too many places to look.

if you're interested respond to the thread or e-mail me at [email protected]

    Thanks for reading,
    I hope It reaches someone

    -Andre

hehe I'm sure a cello can be mic'd but I don't believe cellos have any pickups....in essence, a cello can never be electric it seems (depending on the definition of electric of course)

I'm not sure if I've ever heard cellos in metal...I've heard violins...and full on orchestras with metal...cellos are there...but so are several other instruments, hehe

the cello, violin, flutes, etc... are instruments that come much later in the forming of a band with a Metal core. Basically before getting all fancy with instruments such as the ones mentioned above....a 2nd guitarist...or a bassist....or a drummer would be needed to create the foundation of the musical compositions. It wasn't meant as a attack against cellos! I guess I didn't make it clear that the higher priority at this stage would be other basic instruments.

It saddens me that whenever Metal is mentioned, many armenians automatically think system of a down, and start saying stuff like...hey its serj 2. Many Armenians just know System of a Down, Metallica, a few Armenian Metallica copycat bands and some classic rock and hair metal.

Thats one of the reasons why I think there should be more extreme metal acts formed by armos, music is more than what is heard on the radio and seen on tv, there is a gap, a point where people completely shut themselves off from anything that isn't commercial. A Band like this could at least arrouse some more appreciation and understanding of Rock/Metal in the Armenian youth. It isn't being a "fob" to blend traditional armenian melodies with Modern, Metal music, unfortunately too many people are embarressed of their own heritage and everything it stands for, I've spoken to musicians that happened to be Armenian and they cringed at the idea of blending anything Armenian with their metal bands. The American-Armenian's have the potential to do a lot of things for Armenians not only in the music world but in the professional world as well, yet they don't because it isn't "cool" to be Armenian.

It would be nice if young people (particularly American born Armenians such as myself) could have more of an appreciation of Armenianism as well as heavy metalism....yet, this doesn't require ripping off well known bands like Metallica, and adding very minimal influences from Armenian culture if any and claiming to be a truly original Armenian band.

This is just my perspective, often times, the unpopular one.

I meant it as a playful joke, I'm sorry... as for Metal Bands, Skinny Puppy blows them out of the water (if thats even considered Metal)

Serj2! Hey come on, I'm not that ugly....or am I...hehe. I guess the whole definition of "Metal" needs to be reconstituted with all these genre crossings that have occured in the past decade.

Actually, you look more like Darron. And no you're not ugly. If I was a chick I'd f*ck you

But seriously now, I think it's cool if we get more entertainers who are Armenian. Not to go back to System again, but you don't know how many people I've run into that know more about Armenian history now simply because their favorite rock band was of an ethnicity they never heard of and felt compelled to research it.

I agree, that band has done a lot for Armenians, other than Armenian's no one really payed too much attention to them until their music got more MTV/commercial friendly. The band is Armenian, the band is well known, the band plays a form of commercial metal and is among bands like metallica, limp bizkit, linkin park, etc. But does that make it good music? An LA based band from the 80s that I think is far superior than any other American-Armenian act I've ever heard went far too uncredited for their contributions to metal and the armenian community because they didn't play commercial Metal music. That band was Mach1 http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mach1 The guitarist and bassist I believe are now in a band called "Red Snow" which might sound familiar to some people...as it is more commercial and toned down these days, heh.

While on the subject of extreme metal performed by Armenians, http://www.ambehr.com seems to be the only band with potential that comes to mind. They formed in Yerevan, but are now active in the Russian Metal scene. the band melechesh http://www.melechesh.com is a well established middle eastern black metal band with frontman that is Armenian/Assyrian. I interviewed him on my website, he's a real cool guy. Hopefully I'll get a chance to interview ambehr too.
