My name's Joan, I live in a region of Spain where we talk catalan language. I love the old armenian culture and I know of the suffering of armenian in keeping their identity alive. Of course I've signed all of the manifestos of recognition of armenian genocide and I support the platform against the admission of Turkey in the European Union until this country accepts the existence of this crime and begs for the pardon to the armenian nation.

I hope you will accept me as a member of your forum.

    Friendly,

    Joan.
I heard Catalan is an intermediary between Spanish and French.

    Is that true?

Thanks for your welcome and sorry for the delay in writting again.

I'm a man, not a girl. In catalan Joan means John.

Our language belongs to the group of gallo-romanic languages, so it is related to french and very very close to occitan, spoken (if anybody still does it) in Southern France.

Basque... that is really a rare language!!! nothing is known about its origin and connections with other languages.

I have many many questions for all of you, armenian friends. For exemple, how are the relations between armenian and georgian peoples? I wonder this because Georgia is also a christian country with an old history and, like you, it is sorrounded by islamic nations. Of course I know as well that armenian and georgian languages belong to completely different families.

      I hope for your answer.

      Warmly,
      Joan

Georgian is a Caucasian language, meaning geographically and linguistically.
It's pretty much in a class of itself.
Armenian is an Indo-European language related distantly to greek and persian...some used to say it was an intermediary.

Also Georgia used to be called Iberia

Yes parthiapride, I do know that differences. In fact, we can say that armenian is closer to catalan that to georgian!!! I like everything about languages, specially small and endangered ones. But my question is more about if armenians and georgians feel that they are in similar circumstances and difficulties to deffend their identity in a hostile geographical context (specially because of religion) and if this fact produces a feeling of brothership.

          Thanks for your answer,

          Joan.

Not really. Armos and Jorgies hate each other pretty much. Had a war or two over southern Georgestan(Armenian enclave Javakh).
Currently buddy buddy with arch enemies Turkey and Azerbaijan(got a pipleline going). Stalin(a georgie) didn't help things either.

So no, religion has no "bonding" qualities in this situation.

Ask a Bulgar if he likes greeks, or greeks like macedonians, etc.
